Phone 887-6645 Cranbrook WMS holds September meeting The September meeting of the W.M.S. of Knox Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. Leslie Knight. The president, Mrs. Jack Knight, welcomed everyone and gave a reading “Summer Slips Away." Mrs. Wilfred Strickler read from 1 Timothy and gave a meditation and led in prayer. Hymns, “Pour out Thy Spirit’’ and “In our dear Lord’s garden’’ were sung accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Stewart Steiss. All joined in the Lord’s Prayer and the leader gave the meditation on it. Several items from the Glad Tidings pertaining to Russia were read by Mrs. Mac Engel. Mrs. Strickler read the minutes and Mrs. Jim Hart gave the treasurer’s report. Glad Tidings secretary Mrs. Harvey Smith reminded the members that subscriptions must be in by November 1. The Fall Conference will be held in Goderich on Wed., October 28. The roll call on schools days was answered by 12 members. A reading “September” from an old Grade 2 school reader was given by Mrs. Strickler. Eight cards sent and 17 visits made were recorded. Two mem­ bers paid their “birthday money”. In closing the Mizpah benediction was repeated in unison. Lunch committee Mrs. Goldwin Knight and Mrs. Donald Perrie assisted the hostess with lunch. People around Cran brook The ball players finished off the season with apicnic at the ball park on Sunday afternoon. Several games of ball were played, follow­ ed by plenty of hot dogs, cake, coffee, and juice. The weather was threatening but the rain held off. Ball has been played Monday and Wednesday evenings with ap­ proximately 50 children register­ ed. All had a good time. Sunday School reopened on September 13 at the time of church service 9:45 p.m. Misses Marie and Verna Perrie, daughters of Mrs. Donald Perrie commenced studied in new places, Marie to Brock University, St. Catharines and Verna at Cones­ toga College, Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Starr, Alliston, visited on the weekend with Don and Mrs. Cotton. He was 90 years of age. He was born in Nanaimo, B.C. and was the husband of the late Rhoda (Howey) Ross who prede­ ceased him in February, 1978. He is survived by one son, Wilmer, of Cambridge. Also surviving are one sister, 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was predeceas­ ed by one sister and one brother and two sons, Alexander and Jack. The funeral service was held Sept. 11, 1987 at the Brussels Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes with Rev. Charles Carpen­ tier in charge. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery.
