Scholarship allows farm study abroad A travelling scholarship spon­ sored by the Canadian Nuffield Agricultural Scholarship Associa­ tion will be awarded to a Canadian farmer or farm manager wanting to study farming practices and agri­ cultural conditions in a Common­ wealth country during 1988. The purpose of the scholarship is to increase practical farm know­ ledge and to provide a better understanding among Common­ wealth farmers. Applicants will be able to select their study program in the United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia. The scholarship is open to men or women who are either farm managers or are engaged in practical farming in Canada, and are persons likely to spread their knowledge upon their return. Applicants must exhibit keen research and leadership traits, and must be Canadian citizens, prefer­ ably between 30 and 45 years of age. Prospective applicants should expect to leave Canada in Febru­ ary, 1988. The scholarship covers travel and basic living allowances for the scholar and the length of the scholarship will depend on the type of study and country selected, but will notexceed four months. On return, the scholar will prepare a report for the Canadian Nuffield Scholars Selection Committee, present information at public farm meetings, and use the increased knowledge to improve farming practices in the community where the scholar lives. Entries for the contest closed on Saturday. Vying for the title on October 3 will be Heather McIntosh of RR 5, Brussels; Tanya Boonstoppel of RR 1, Auburn; Donna Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale; Angela Coultes of RR 5, Wingham; Laurie Pentland of RR 6, Goderich; and Brenda Nancekivell of RR 1, Clifford. Entrants must be between the ages of 15 and 24, single, and be living or working on a Huron Coilnty dairy farm. The winner of the county title will go on to compete in the Ontario Dairy Princess competition at the Cana­ dian National Exhibition next August.
