Walton UCW holds
Sept, meeting
The Squirt Boys lost their first
game in Belgrave on Sept. 1 in the
next series, but won on Sept. 3 in
Walton.
The Bantam Boys won over
Wellesley in W.O.A.A. Sept. 1 in
Walton. They then went to
Williamsford on Sept. 6, score 6 - 5
for Williamsford who return to
Walton for a game Tuesday night.
The Bantam Boys also played
and won their first game in
Tri-County Round Robin against
Brussels on Sept. 3.
The Pee Wee Boys won their first
series against Wroxeter 2 games to
1. They will be starting their final
around against Wingham in Tri
County playoffs shortly.

The United Church Women
(U.C.W.)of Duff’s United Church.
Walton met in the church for their
September meeting on Wednes
day evening.
Marie McGavin of Walton 1 unit
was in charge of the worship
service opening with “Search me.
O My God' ’. The hymn. “Guide me
OThou great Jehovah” with Marie
as pianist was sung. She took the
scripture reading from Psalm 139.
The meditation was on “looking at
ourselves as we begin the fall
season”. This portion of the
meeting closed with prayer. The
offering was received and dedicat
ed. Marie closed this part with
apoem, “Harvest Time”.
Melva Fraser had the topic and
spoke on a number of events on
Christian Development and World
Outreach. Mary Humphries gave
prayer.
Olene Dennis, first Vice-Presi
dent presided for the business
assisted by Marilyn McDonald
corresponding and recording se
cretary.
Several upcoming events were
given out. Bluevale United Church
anniversary, Sept. 13. Walton
anniversary is Sept. 20 with Rev.
Wilema Brown as guest speaker
with special music. The Huron-
Perth Presbyterial Rally will be
held at Bayfield Church. Sept. 30.
An invitation came from Blyth
United Church Women to attend
their Fall Thankoffering, Sunday
evening. Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. A
discussion took place on the kind of
a tree the U.C.W. would plant at
the church to commemorate the
25th anniversary. A book is to be
purchased to put programs in from
the last 25 years and a plaque will
have the names oh it of the past
Presidents.
All ladies are to be present at the
December meeting to have pic
tures taken. This is to be pot luck
with both units holding a joint
meeting.
The turkey supper was discuss
ed with prices for adults, $6.50 and
children under 12, $3.50. Pre
school children free. There will be a
fall bale packed, articles to be left
either at the church or Mark’s
Garage before October 18. Resig
nations to be in by the end of
September. October and Novem
ber are executive meetings. Olene
Dennis closed the meeting with
prayer.

Sports Club meets
The Walton Area Sports Club finished playing their games. The
held their monthly meeting, Sept. next meeting is called for Oct. 5 at

The Walton Women’s Institute
will hold their first noon luncheon
for this coming season on Wed.,
Sept. 16, with the monthly meeting
that evening. Anyone in the
community is welcome. 4-H girls
and their leaders to be guests.
The card parties begin on
Thursday, Sept. 17 with a Dessert
Euchre starting at 7 p.m. Come out
and start the winter season.
Special prizes will be awarded to
the first three highest scores at the
end of the season.
Women return
from England
Mrs. Mary Humphries and Mrs.
Helen Williamson have returned
homefroma holiday in England
where they saw many places of
interest and took in a wedding of
Helen’s relative.
Teachers push
agriculture education
Huron County’s delegation to
the August Assembly of the
Ontario Public School Teacher’s
Federation (OPSTF) held in Hamil
ton, August 17-21 has received
unanimous support for its resolu
tions aimed at increasing the
agricultural awareness of teach
ers, students and communities all
across the province.
OPSTF delegates voted over
whelmingly in support of Huron’s
motion that the Ministry of Educa
tion, in co-operation with the
Ministry of Agriculture and Food
and with local school boards,
develop provincial and local school
programs to ensure that all Ontario
students are made aware of the
impact that agriculture has on their
lives.
Special assistance in support of
this OPSTF-Huron initiative came
from, both Richard Hamilton,
agriculture representative with the
Clinton OMAF office, and from
Bob Thompson of W.G. Thompson
and Sons Ltd. of Hensail.
Making up the Huron delegation
to the conference were Doug Yeo of
Clinton, OPSTF-Huron president
1986-87; Rob Snell, Exeter, 1987-
88president; Dave Kemp, Clinton,
past-president, 1986-87; Al Sand
ers, Goderich, secretary-treasur
er; Gary Jewitt, Clinton; and Jim
Chapman, Exeter.
The OPSTF represents 18,000
teachers from across Ontario.
