Baby contest at Brussels Fair For the first time in its 126-year history, the Brussels Fall Fair will be holding a baby contest, an event which has become increasingly popular at similar events across the province in recent years. Harriet Boon of RR 2, Bluevale, who along with Brian Rutledge of Brussels makes up the Fair’s Baby Show Committee, saysthatfour classes will be offered this year for babies ranging in age from birth to 18 months. ‘‘It’s something we’ve never done before, and when the Agricul- Compiled by Marilyn Higgins Call887-6754 Lillian Hallam from the Admini­ stration Centre, Debbie Smith from Victoria Public School, Mar­ lene Starkey from Grey Central and Barb Richmond from Grey Central School have completed a summer course designed to improve teach­ ing in the earliest years of school. About 200 teachers from across Ontario attended the course, given theweekofAugust23-28.Itwas sponsored by the Federation of Women Teachers’ Associations of Ontario. Classes were at the Scarborough campus of the Uni­ versity of Toronto. All babies are eligible for the contest, which will be judged in four categories: ages up to four months; ages four to eight months; ages eight to 12 months; and ages 12 to 18 months. Guests were present from De­ troit, London, Seaforth, George­ town, Stratford, Kitchener, Toron­ to and Brussels. Many family pictures and histor­ ies were viewed and found hum­ ourous.
