Get out and
vote on
Thursday
Thursday. September 10. is
election day in Ontario, with some
six million Ontario residents eligi
ble to cast their ballot in 130
electoral districts across the pro
vince.
Under provincial redistribution,
Huron County voters for the first
time will vote in the electoral
district of Huron, which matches
the boundaries of the county itself.
In previous provincial elections,
the county was split, with voters in
the northern part voting in the
riding of Huron-Bruce, and voters
in the south casting their ballot in
Huron-Middlesex.
Polls throughout Huron County
will open at 9 a.m. and close at 8
p.m. on election day. It is the
responsibility of each voter to
ensure that his name is on the
voter’s list, and to know the
location of his polling station.
However, rural electors omitted
from the list may cast a ballot
provided they take an oath and are
accompanied by an elector who is
on the list in the same polling
division, and who will vouch for
them.
Electors are issued a folded
ballotby the Deputy Returning
Officer, which they mark in
private, refold, and return to the
DRO for deposit in a sealed ballot
box.
Candidates’ names are number
ed and listed alphabetically on the
ballot; however, there is no
indication on the ballot as to which
political party each name repre
sents. In Huron, Paul Klopp is the
candidate for the New Democratic
Party (NDP); Nico Peters repre
sents the Progressive Conserva
tive party (PC); and Jack Riddell
represents the Liberal Party.
The ballot must be marked in
only one white circle, which
appears to the right of each
candidate’s name. Any ballot
marked in more than one circle will
be considered a spoiled ballot, and
will not be counted.

Canada's next international skating hero could very well be Kevin Wheeler of RR 5, Brussels, who
returned Sunday from Europe with two gold medals and two top trophies from international figure skating
competitions. Mr. Wheeler and his Senior Pairs partner, Michelle Menzies of Preston, took first place in
the International Figure Skating Championships at both St. Gervais, France, and Oberstdorf, West
Germany, wins which will likely qualify them for a place on the Canadian Olympic team at Calgary next
