Londesboro Cheerio Club holds meeting
Chris Kennedy pitched his Hallett Squirt team to the “A”
championship in a squirt tournament held in Benmiller on Friday and
Saturday. Two teams from Blyth were not so fortunate, each losing the
two games it played.
The Cheerio Club met on
Wednesday, August 26 at the
home of Laura Lyon with Dora
Shobbrook as M.C. She welcomed
all with a verse “Smile”. She
thanked Laura for having the
meeting and read the minutes of
the last meeting.
A thank you was received from
Mary Longman. Margaret Good
gave the treasurer’s report. Roll

Sunday School
begins Sept. 13
Greeting on Sunday morning at
the Londesboro United Church
were Rev. Snihur and Edna Reid.
The ushers were Shannon Duizer,
Joanne Wilts, Christine Potter and
Dorena Simpson.
Rev. Snihur welcomed all and
gave the call to worship and the
announcements. The flowers were
from the wedding of Diana Shob
brook and Mark Sjaarda on
Saturday. Sunday School begins
September 13 at 10 a.m. and
service of worship will begin at
11:15 a.m. next Sunday. A Bible
was presented to Jennifer Szusz on
graduating from Junior Congrega
tion.
The scripture reading was from
Matthew 13, “Hidden Trea
sures.” Scripture lesson was ‘‘The
Last Judgement”. Jennifer and
Kerri Szusz sang a duet accompan
ied by their mother, Marsha Szusz.
The sermon was ‘‘Making Mini
stry Happen.”

At the next meeting on September
23 at Margaret Good’s Group 2 will
be in charge.
The readings, ‘‘Philosophy of
Life” and “Friendship Counts”
were given by Estella Adams, and
“Little Mischief” and “Grandpa’s
Spectacles” were read by Laura
Lyon and “Time Saved” and “A
Concluding Thought” were read
by Dora Shobbrook. The contest,
Quiz Similes by Dora was won by
Estella and Trees by Estella was
won by Edythe Beacom. Some
cards were played and lunch was
served by Laura Lyon, Estella
Adams and Dora Shobbrook.
People around Londesboro
Miss Kathy Kelly and Richard
Carmichael of Thunder Bay visited
the first of last week with her
grandmother, Clara Riley and
family.
Congratulations to Diana Shob
brook and Mark Sjaarda who were
married on Saturday in the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Millson of
Woodstock visited on the weekend
with her mother Dora Shobbrook
and were guests at the Sjaarda-
Shobbrook wedding on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnston
and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vodden
attended the 50th wedding anni
versary oftheir uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. Graham McNee at the
Nile Church.
The W.I. meeting will be held
September 9 at 8 p.m. The speaker
will be Mrs. Guse, Dietition. Roll
call will be “A Healthy Food and
name the vitamin it contains.”
Allen and Ruth Shaddick spent a
few days last week at a cottage at
Miller Lake visiting her brother
and sister-in-law Charlie and
Myrtle Walkom. Their grandsons
Scott and Todd accompanied them.
Would anyone who took hall
towels home to launder, especially
the towels with blue borders,
please return them ready for the
fall season.
Weekend retreat
for 4-Hers
A weekend retreat for senior 4-H
Club members will be held Sept. 18
to 20 at Camp Canbay, near
Bayfield.
The weekend should prove both
educational and fun. Guest speak
ers will cover a variety of topics of
interesttoeveryone. Therealso
will be a number of recreational
activities in which to participate.
There still is room for senior
