Phone 887-6677 Bridal shower held for Darlene Gulutzen Friday evening, August 28, relatives and friends gathered in the Walton Community Hall to honour Miss Darlene Gulutzen at a bridal shower prior to her wedding next month to Steve Radford. The hall was attractively decor­ ated with teal and white streamers and bows. Shirley Hartlein, aunt of the bride-elect, was in charge of the guest book. Corsages were pinned on the honoured guests. Darlene, her mother, Pauline Gulutzen, his mother Joyce Rad­ ford and Darlene’s grandmother, Ruth Thamer. Kim Thamer, aunt of the McGavins host reunion The Stewart Reunion was held at the home of Neil and Marie McGavin, RR 4, Walton recently. Family members are descen­ dants of the late Peter Stewart of Brussels. The afternoon was spent visiting, wagon rides, also rides on a fire truck. Guests were present from Sarnia, Toronto, Stratford, Bracebridge, Huntsville and sur­ rounding area. Church services resume Morning worship resumed a- gain Sunday at Duff’s United Church. Rev. Bonnie Lamble returned from her holidays the first of the week. Announcements given out were Bluevale Anniversary Sunday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. There willbe no church in Walton that day. Sunday, Sept. 20 is Walton Anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 is Sunday School Awards Sunday and classes begin for Sunday School for next season. The U.C.W. general meeting will be held this Wednesday in the church basement at 7:30 p.m. People around Walton Mrs. Isabelle Shortreed spent the weekend with Bill and Louise Smith at their cottage at Point Clark. Jack Warwick of Brussels also visited with them all over Friday night. Vance Stevenson of Whitby spent a few days last week with his cousins, Ron and Chris Stevenson. Rev. KenandCarol Innes and boys of Winnipeg formerly of Brussels visited last week with Ken and Judy Shortreed and family. Jamie Bennewies spent Satur­ day and overnight with Chris Stevenson. Chris returned home with Jamie till Monday night. They spent Sunday afternoon at Hully Gully with the Bennewies family. Misses Gayle and Kim Neill of Clifford have been holidaying with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Johnston. AllanandRhea Johnston of Kitchener visited on Sunday at the same home. The Walton Area Sports Club is having their bake sale at the library this Friday evening (5-8) and Saturday morning (9-12). The botanical name for the tomato plant -- lycopersicon -- means “wolf of the peach’’, and a few centuries ago some Europeans thought it was used by sorcerers to weave their black magic. No wonder it took so long for the tomato to catch on! bride-elect welcomed everyone and presented a short program. Crystal Hartlein, cousin of Dar­ lene ’ s, play ed a piano solo, entitled “Long, Long Ago’’. A game of elimination was enjoyed with everyone sitting down on the last item called. Kim had Darlene name several kitchen gadgets that she then gave to Darlene. Judy Emmrich read the address and Darlene was presented with many lovely gifts. Bows were put on an apron and put on Darlene that she wore the rest of the evening. Ruthie Thamer assisted with ar­ ranging the gifts. Darlene thanked everyone for coming and for all the very useful gifts and invited everyone to the reception following the wedding. Bantams lose Cranbrook in tournament Compiled by Mrs. Mac Engel. Phone 887-6645 The Walton Bantam Boys partic­ ipated in the O.A.S.A. Provincial “D’ ’ Championship held at Verona this past weekend. They won their first game but lost the next two games. It was a great experience for the boys. Along with their coaches some of theparentsaccompanied them. Teams participating included, Springbrook, North Gower, Ponty Pool, Milverton, Munster, Verona, Wyevale and Walton. In the W.O.A.A. series the Bantam Boys for Walton have two games with Wellesley having one game. The next game will be played this Tuesday night in Walton. The Squirt Boys have been in the playoffs against Clinton, each having two games with Walton winning the deciding game, Friday evening. The Bantam Girls played against Brussels on August 26 in Walton and won that game. The Pee Wee Boys have finished for the season. At Atwood Community Centre on Sunday afternoon August 23 Jeff, Rick and Gerald Knight were hosts for a 25th anniversary party for their parents, Leslie and Yvonne who were married at Moncrieff 25 years ago on August 25. Donald Dunbar and Alf Sutton provided background music which was greatly enjoyed by a large crowd of relatives and friends who visited with the bride and groom, and then sat down to a delicious buffet supper. Best wishes Leslie and Yvonne. It was a super party. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conley arrived home on Tuesday from a trip to Western Canada, through the U.S.A. They were accompani­ ed by Jean’s sister, Mrs. Isabella Hewitt. They report very poor crops, and most of the way the harvest is just nicely started in the west. Mrs. Rose Gray, Atwood, visited Don and Mrs. Cotton Wednesday.
