Work is progressing rapidly on
Dr. Keith Hay’s new office on
Blyth’s main street, with
official opening date set
September 1.
Since last March, when
Hay’s expanding practice outgrew
the facility he shared with Dr. R. W.
Street in Blyth, Dr. Hay’s patients
have had to travel to Clinton to see
him, where he maintains an office
for five half-days per week at the
town’s new Medical Building.
It will be good to be back in Blyth
again,” said Dr. Hay. ‘‘I feel a
strong relationship with the people
of this area.”
Starting September 1, Dr. Hay’s
Blyth office will be open for three
half days per week, 9 a.m. to noon
on Monday, and 2 - 5 p.m. on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. For the
present, he plans to keep his
Clinton office for the same five half
days per week, but says it will
depend on what the people of the
area want, and on how rapidly his
practice grows at the Blyth office.
Ultimately, he hopes to have the
Blyth office open five days a week,
but this would meantakingona
partner, a second doctor who
would complement both practices.
Dr. Hay’s wife, Susan, a regi
stered nurse who has worked part
time at the Clinton office and on a
relief basis at Dr. Street’s office,
will work at the Blyth office when it
opens.
Dr. Hay studied undergraduate
science at Mt. Allison University in
hishometown of Sackville, new
Brunswick, then took his medical
training at McGill, where he
graduated in 1983. He did two
years of residency training and
internship at the Ottawa Civic
Hospital, then came in as a junior
partner to Dr. Street in July, 1985,
where he remained until last
March. Duringthefirstyear, he

with Dr. Art Steed and Dr. Peter
Salsbury in Clinton, until opening
his own office when the new
Medical Building opened in Janu
ary, 1986.
Dr. Hay says he likes having a
small-town practice because it
gives him more chance to practice
what he calls ‘ ‘ true medicine” than
is possible in a city, where he says a
doctor of family medicine is often
only a ‘‘doorway to specialists.”
He notes that much credit is due to
the Clinton Public Hospital, which
has assisted him in setting up the
Blyth office, and is eager to
maintain a strong presence in the
Blyth area.
The Hay family has purchased a
farm in Hullett Township, where
they plan tobuild a home and move
within the next five years, before
the children are ready for school.
Keith and Susan Hay have two
children, Lindsay, 2, and Alexan
der (Sandy) five months.
