Eady struck out 13 and allowed only four hits in pitching his team to a 6 - 0 win. Although delayed by Sunday’s rain the tournament was completed Sunday night. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1987. PAGE 19. Brussels mite girls win consolation crown On Saturday, Aug. 8 the Tri County Mite Girls Tournament was held in Wingham. The tourn ament was among six centres, Belgrave, Brussels and Walton from the southern division playing the northern centres of Bluevale, Fordwich and Wroxeter. The first Brussels game was at 10:30 at Riverside Park against Wroxeter. Until the fourth inning it was anyone’s game when Stacy Hahn hit a grand slammer with bases loaded. The game ended up 17 - 7 for Brussels. The next game was at the Optimist Park at 12 noon against Bluevale. At the end of two innings, Bluevale was leading 12 - 4. Brussels girls just couldn’t seem to do anything right. They came alive when Janice Jacklin hit a triple, followed by a home run by ErinMitchell. Other home runs were scored by Rebecca Daughin and Jennifer Machan. At the end of the fourth inning the score was tied at 16. The pressure was on. Bluevale being home team got last bat. Brussels, in the fifth inning scored five runs, while Bluevale only scored once. Score ended up Brusselswinning21 -17. It sure was a good game. Brussels then had a break for lunch. Their next game was at 3 p.m. at the Josephine Street Park Brussels approve by-law Brussels council approved a by-law August 4 that, if approved by Grey township council, will set the ground rules for hooking up to the Brussels sewer system by people in the township. The by-law would require that customers of the sewer system outside the village boundary pay the same frontage charge as those within the village plus 150 per cent of the normal monthly sewer charge. The bylaw is necessary, Clerk treasurer Hugh Hanly explained, because only Grey township has the power to forcibly collect from residents in its municipality. Councillor Ruth Sauve felt that a similar agreement should be draft ed with Morris township. Mr. Hanly was instructed by council to draft such a bylaw in time for the next meeting of Council in Sept. against Fordwich. Again the first two innings indicated that it was anyone’s game. The third inning Brussels pulled ahead with home runsfrom “Mighty” Holly Mit chell, Tanya Smith, Kristal Smith, and Amy Thomas. In the game Lanette Todd brought in four runs and Kim Mulvey, the strong first baseman, added another three runs to the total. Sarah McArter did some great catching behind home base. They came out on top with a score of 33-21. After winning all three games and a plus of 26 they won the Consolation Tournament. The day ended with a barbecue for the team and their families.
