Vodden trophy awarded at tournament Sports Tournament washed out The BlythLawnBowling Club held its fifth annual Vodden Trophy tournament on Saturday, August 8. Thirty-two teams came from as far away as Toronto, London and Midland to compete in the three-game contest which took place at the Clinton Lawn Bowling Club facilities. This is a mixed doubles competi­ tion, which means that each team consists of one man and one Blyth Bowling Club held its tournament for the Vodden Trophy at the Clinton bowling greens on Saturday. Winning team was Don Leslie [left] and Marilyn Lancaster of St. Marys. BY KATHY BROMLEY Last weekend, Blyth held its annual Men’s Slow Pitch Tourna­ ment, with 32 teams participating. Four diamonds were in use: Auburn, Belgrave, Radford and Blyth Arena, with many fans cheering their teams on. The first games were held Wednesday evening. Mother N ature was on their side, as showers held off, allowing the games to be played as scheduled, at least until Saturday night. Dances were held both Friday and Saturday evenings, with Disc Jockeys from “Music Express” providing the music to good crowds both evenings. Unfortunately, the rain that held off during the tournament earlier, madeupforitonSunday. Due to the continuous downpour, no more games could be played to decide the champions. With the cancella­ tion, cash prizes were then split between the eight remaining teams. Forthe “A” division, Blyth Inn, Goderich Coyotes, Lucknow Kinsmen and Atwood Colbra each received $340 in prize money. Howsons, Parkhouse, Gemini and Big League each obtained $225 in the “B” division. Brussels bowlers win trophies On August 6 the Brussels Ladies Bowling Club bowled for the Jack Yuill Trophy while at the same time Brussels men bowlers played for the Jim Mair Trophy. In the ladies division Elda Coultes and Jane DeVries won the Jack Yuill Trophy with three wins and a plus of 39. Jean Bewley and Louise Bosman were second. Marj Coultes and Helen Martin were third. Viola Kirkby and Ida Evans were fourth. Isabel Gibson and Mary Yuill got the consolatior. prize. In the men’s division, Jim Coultes and Jim Mair had three wins and a plus of 35 to take the Jim Mair Trophy. Gerald Gibson and Gordon Bosman were second. Jim Bowman and Clarence Hanna were third. Jack Bowman and George Johnston were fourth. Les Douglas and Ken McDonald got the consolation prize. The first game was bowled at 4:30 and the group held a pot luck supper. 1 *
