MVCA chairman
Bruce McCall of Brussels was
formally elected to the position of
chairman of the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority at the
organization’s summer general
meeting held August 5 in Wroxe-
ter. His nomination was unoppos
ed.
Mr. McCall who has a long
standing commitment to conserva
tion, has served as acting chairman
ofthe Authority since last May,
when Chairman Vince Judge of
Listowel stepped down, citing
personal and professional respon
sibilities. As well as being instru
mental in establishing the
$372,000 Brussels Dam Restora
tion Project in 1984, Mr. McCall
has served as the Village of
Brussels representative to the
MVCA since 1978; was elected
chairman of the Community Rela
tions Advisory Board in 1983; and
was elected vice-chairman of the
Full Authority in 1985, a position
he held until last Spring.
In accepting the position of
Chairman, Mr. McCall thanked
Jack Graul of RR 2, Gadshill for
having taken on the duties of
vice-chairman over the past few
months, as well as the MVCA staff
for its “full support,’’ and added
that “any organization is only as
good as the people behind it.’’
At the same meeting, Mr. Graul,
former Provincial Representative
of the Authority and a member of
the Conservation Area’s Advisory
Board, was acclaimed as vice
chairman of the Authority, a
position he has agreed to fill until
the end of the term next February.
Normally held in early winter,
this meeting was called early to
confirm the appointments of the
new executive officers, as well as to
present the new conservation
awards and certificates which will
now become an annual feature of
Authority commitment.
A Conservation Award of Dis
tinction was presented to Norman
Alexander of Londesboro in recog
nition of Mr. Alexander’s lifelong
commitment to the conservation of
landand water resources, while
Conservation Award Certificates
were awarded to six individuals
and corporations within the Mait
land Valley watershed.
Steve Hardaker of Environment
Canada was on hand to present an
