From the Minister's Study Let's share the truth about heaven inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correctingfaults, andgivingin- struction for right living so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed.” In 2 Peter 2:1-2 we are warned of people whoare disguised as Satan, BY REV. VIC JAMIESON BELGRAVE AND BRUSSELS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES It is not true that everyone who dies goes to a better place, that there is more than one way to Heaven, that Hell does not exist or that people who do good deeds will go to Heaven. InJohn8:31-32,Jesussaidto the father of lies, ‘‘False prophets those who believed in him, ‘‘If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." This means free from sin which condemns us to Hell. Knowing the truth and Heaven and Hell begins with the realization of Romans 3: 23, “everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence.” All of us are born naturally as disobedient children whose dis- obeidnece can be traced back to our first grandparents, Adam and Eve who were deceived by Satan, disguised as a serpent, todoubt God’s World. They, like many people today, want to have the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong for themselves. Most people do not know the real value of God’s Word according to 2 Timothy 3: 16-17, ‘‘All Scripture is appeared in the past among the people, and in the same way false teachers will appear among you. They will bring in destructive, untrue doctrines, and will deny the Master who redeemed them, and so they bring upon themselves sudden destruction. Even so, many will follow their immoral ways; and because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of Truth.” In order for any of us to know the truth about Heaven and Hell we must allow the Holy Spirit to turn us from sin, our disobedient nature, and enable us to become born again of the Holy Spirit. In John 3: 3 and 5, Jesus says to Nicodemus, a leading Jewish teacher who was trying to please God by merely obeying all his commandments: “I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again ... no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” We become Christians not mere- ly by joining a church, but by allowing God’s Word and Holy Spirit to make us a holy part of the spiritual body of believers in Jesus Christ. In John 14: 6 he says, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” Unless our lives reflect the fruits of the Spirit we are not really followers of Jesus and will not enter Heaven, unless we have enough time for a true, last minute confession of sin like one of the thieves who hung beside Jesus. Galations 5: 22 informs us, “The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self control.” In John 14: 1-4 Jesus described Heaven, “Do not be worried and upset... Believe in God and believe also in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, 1 will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where 1 am. You know the way that leads to the place where I am going.” Ephesians 2:8-9 points out how we are able to enter Heaven’s gate: “For it is by God’s grace (Jesus Christ’s sacrifice of his body and blood once, for all) that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts (being baptized, confirmed or other good deeds to please God), but God’s gift (Jesus Christ) so that no one can boast about it.” 1 Corinthians 15: 50 underlines the need for us to be born again of the Spirit in order to enter Heaven: ‘‘what is made of flesh and blood cannot share in God’s Kingdom, and what is mortal (of this world) cannot possess immortality.” Jes us said in Matthew 16: 19:1 will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven. These are some of the references about Hell. What we say can indicate an ultimate destination: “Whoever calls his brother a worthless fool will be in danger of going to the fire of Hell.” Matthew 5: 22).
