Beginning August 1 John Battye [left] and Don Stewart [right] will operate Lawrie Decorating while the Lawries concentrate on management of their apartments in Blyth and Goderich. Robbie and Carole Lawrie Satur­ day turned over the business to two-long-time employees, Don Stew art and John Battye. The new partners will set up a showroom at Swinging Seniors hold beach party The July meeting of the Bly th Swinging Seniors was held in the pavilion at St. Christopher’s Beach in Goderich, beginning with a pot luck meal at noon. Following this, President John Hesselwood con­ ducted a short business period. He announced that the August meeting will be a hot roast beef dinner at the Triple K on Wednes­ day, August26at5:45p.m. All who can go are to let Ida Procter know by Wednesday, August 19. The program committee, Lloyd Walden and Vera Hesselwood, then led in some very entertaining games and contests. Winners of these were: Millar Richmond, Aubrey Toll, Feme McDowell, Margaret Nesbit, Mary Walden, Evelyn Smith, Harvey McDowell, Charlie Smith and Mary Hoonard. Happy Birthday was sung to those having July birthdays: Millar Richmond, Gordon McDowell and Alvin Snell. All then enjoyed a time to visit and drink in the beauty of Lake Huron. c/o SENTE ENTERPRISES INC. RENTAL FAMILY TOWNHOMES the Stewart home and continue to do decorating as well as sell carpeting, paint and other decorat­ ing supplies. The sale will allow the Lawries to devote more time to management oftheir apartment buildings. With the opening later this month of a new eight-unit apartment building in Blyth, the couple will own and manage 26 apartment units in Blyth and Goderich. In addition Robbie says, he expects to start a new job as a decorating supply salesman in September, although he did not want to give details at this point. Don Stewart has worked for the company for 14 years while John Battye has worked for 12 years. Both grew up in Blyth. Robbie Lawrie took over the business from his father in January 1966. James (known to most as Jimmy) Lawrie had started the business in 1947 as a way of starting his own business without a large investment in money. Re- INTRODUCING - cently arrived from Scotland was encouraged to get into decor­ ating (mostly papering at the time) by Mrs. Earl Hoble who had been doing some papering in and around the village. His initial equipment included two stepladders and an old plank he found in a barn. Later he began doing outside painting as well. After Robbie took over the business Jimmy became custodian of Blyth Public School for many years before retiring. He is famous throughout the area for entertain­ ing with Scottish songs and jokes. The business expanded under Robbie Lawrie as he opened a shop in the family home selling decorat­ ing supplies and reached farther afield and took on large decorating projects. He served on Blyth village council and was reeve from 1973 to 1976. The new partners will continue to operate the business as Lawrie Decorating. COUNTRY LIVING £ It’s good to see town foreman Merv Ritchie back at work after having a three-week enforced holiday after a piece of cement fell on his foot breaking a toe. Keith and Jill Roulston and family attended the wedding of Jill’s sister Enid Twiner to Dave Roberts in Toronto on Saturday. While there they visited with Mr. and Mrs. James Twiner and other family members.
