Provincial government funds for municipal charitable homes for the aged will be increased by 14 million annually, Ontario Community and Social Services Minister John Sweeney has announced. The additional funding is inten ded to help administrators and their staffs to meet the growing financial demands of their services to seniors, Mr. Sweeney said in making the announcement. The funding is intended as an interim measure until the government completes its province-wide study of extended care which is currently underway. In Ontario, there are 88 munici pal homes for the aged with 18,563 beds, and 93 charitable homes with 10,166 beds. All will benefit from a 5.5 per cent increase - retroactive to Jan. 1, 1987 - in the basic daily amount paid for extended and residential care. This annual in crease means an added $7,883,200 for municipal homes and an added $3,200,200 for charitable homes. The announcement also pro vides funding for extended care beds to municipal and charitable homes which become accredited. This accreditation funding is ex pected to cost the province approx imately $860,000 within the next few years. ** For charitable homes only, the increased funding includes a raise in subsidy under the Charitable Institutions Act to provide an improved level of care for the residents, effective Oct. 1, 1987. This means the provincial govern ment subsidy provided to people receiving extended care services in acharitablehomewill be increased by an annual total of $1,621,400. Also in charitable homes only, certain existing programs will now receive enhanced funding of $569,700, effective April 1. Includ ed are the programs which assist residents to maintain and improve their physical and psycho-social well-being as well as staff develop ment programs. •1986 GMC ’/? ton •1985 Dodge Aries Wagon, airconditioning •1985 Chevette, 29,000 km. 1985 Pontiac Bonneville withair •1984 Olds Delta 88 Brougham, 4 dr., air •1984 Pontiac, 4 dr., Wagon •1979 Olds Regency 98, 4 dr., air HAMM’S CAR SALES Blyth 523-4342 •Gas Pumps •Repairs to most makes and models Sunday and visited with Mrs. Joe Cooper and Nettie Clark at Callan der Nursing Home in Brussels and called at Florence Cardiff’s, Brus sels. The real life seems even more fantastic than Joan’s soap operas, she said. Tim said from what he’s heard of Joan Collins he thought maybe he’d want $80,000 a month to live with her, not live without her. Julia said if she would find the right man who she could then divorce and get $80,000 a month, it might even be worth getting married for a year or so. FRIDAY: Julia was saying that the fur is sure to fly over ‘ome now that Don Getty has presented Prince Andrew and Sarah with fur coats fortheir present from Alberta. The Britsgetupsetthesedays atthe idea of people killing little animals to make coats. Tim was saying it’s been a day of set backs for the animal rights people with fur coats for the duke and dutchess and Paul Magder winning his court case that he should be able to stay open on Sunday. A lot of animal rights people probably support Sunday shopping but that’s one store they might have voted for closing on Sundays no matter what they felt like, he said. j j 6 DAYS OF THESE GREAT SAVINGS EMA IS SUPPLIED AND SEVICED BY ELLIOTT MARR & CO.
