From the Minister's Study Jesus is the only peace BY DON VAIR PASTOR, WESTFIELD FELLOWSHIP HOUR As we watch our television and read our newspapers, we see on the one hand the staggering rise in world tensions, and on the other hand the desperate, pathetic cry for peace. Planet earth is somewhat like a patient in a hospital's major trauma unit. The doctors fight with all their expertise to save the one in critical condition, while others stand by hoping and praying that bv some miracle, the precious life can be saved. In spite of all the cries for peace and the best efforts of our most powerful and concerned leaders, conditionscontinuetoworsen at an alarming rate. I believe the condition of planet earth from a human standpoint, is irreversible. How this violence-filled, war- filled world of ours needs peace and rest, but it will never have it, until there is first real peace and rest in the heart of the individual. Noone can legislate this kind of peace. This peace the United Nations knows nothing about. The only peace this world knows is the kind that is maintained by force. not only in our town and cities, but internationally. Some time ago a talk show host said “Why doesn’t God just stop the wars?’’ A woman called in despairand said “Can’t somebody do something?” Let's supppose that God did directly intervene and stopped the wars and atrocities. How long do you suppose it would be before the next war began? Suppose therewasa nuclearwar that destroyed all the face of the earth, but for two people. Nothing was left but chaos and rubble. How long doyou think it would be before one person picked up a piece of rubble and in anger threw it at the other person? You see, the seeds of another world war would be right there in the hearts of the only two people in existence. The talk show host says “God, stop the wars”, but God’s way is for us to come to Him and let Him give us a brand new heart, and then the wars will end and the atrocities will cease. Then there will be no more of man’s inhumanity to man. How do I receive this kind of peace that fills me, that changes me and my home, that affects my community, my country and the world? 1 get this kind of peace when I receive into my heart the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ. Confess to God that 1 am the sinner He declares me to be and in a genuine act of repentance, accept Christ’s blood sacrifice on Cal­ vary’s cross, and the full payment for my sin debt. From this point on, trust the living Christ as my Saviour and Lord, while life shall last. When I obey the Gospel of peace (Ephesians6:15) I then have peace with God, fori am no longer His enemy. The walls between me and God are broken down and 1 am reconciled to Him. This is the basis then for the peace of God which Jesus promised to His disciples, then and now. My dear friend, we can talk about peace and march for peace untilwearebluein the face. We can assemble our parties of eminent intellectuals and philoso­ phers, but the peace of God in Jesus Christ is the only real peace there is. It first must be the experience of the individual before there can be peace on earth, good will toward men. On June 29 the Blyth Teen Club said, 4‘Thank you and farewell” to their leader of the past four years, Rev. Ken Bauman. Rev. Banman [above] was presented a clock/barometer by the teenagers as a token of their appreciation.
