Phone 887-9250 Large crowd honours Cindy Evans at shower Over 110 ladies attended the community shower held for Cindy Evans in the Ethel United Church. Kelly Krauter, Sandy Earl, Barbara Alexander, AnnUhlerand Tracy White sang a few numbers accompanied by Karen Cardiff on the piano. Barbara Grube conducted a “Know The Bride" contest. Cin­ dy’s family knows her best. Margaret Shortreed led a group sing-song and performed a solo. A welcome bridal address was given by Dorothy Dilworth, a former teacher of Cindy’s. Judy Glenn pinned corsages on Cindy, her mother Jean Evans, and Paul's mother Deanna Fallis. Phone 887-6645 Local children attend Vacation Bible School Children of the area have been attending the Bible vacation school held at the Mennonite church, east of Cranbrook. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Venstraeten and family who mov­ ed recently from Welland to the former Ken Miller home. Dr. Henry Hagedoorn, his wife Kathleen and their son Simon from Aviedo, Florida, visited his brother Peter Hagedoorn, his son Adam, and David McArthur for the July 4 weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Strickler and family at Wildwood Conservation area on July 11. On Monday, July 13 they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Brewster of Carried the shower gifts to Cindy and her helpers Bonnie Evans, Sharon Scott, Mary Berlett, and Debbie Fallis assisted the bride in opening them. Two aprons were covered with bows from the gifts and Cindy posed with them on. Cindy thanked all for coming and thanked everyone who helped to make her shower a grand success. Couple takes part in tour Joe and Kathleen Semple, with George and Isabel Pearson spent the weekend in Ottawa and Montreal on a cattlemen’s tour. Helen and Bill Dobson have been spending some time in Ethel for the last week. Mildred Gill celebrated her 75th birthday on July 15. However, Listowel Hospital administrator James Van Camp said that sufficient care had been given to the child at the Listowel Hospital, which had subsequently notified both the Huron and Perth County Health Units, and that the Huron Health Unit had dispensed the anti-rabies vaccine to the family’s physician. Unlike previous anti-rabies shots which were given daily into the stomach, Dr. J. K. McGregor, acting medical officer of health for Huron County, said injections are now intra-muscular. Two initial shots are given, followed by three more several days apart. He said that Clinton’s last injection will be given in about a month, adding that Mrs. Mooney required no treat­ ment following the incident. Guitarists win Kitchener music award Sibylle and Priska Menzi of RR 3, Monkton, came home from the Canadian Music League Music Festival held in Kitchener July 11-12 as winners. The girls placed first in their category of guitar duet, achieving a mark of 94 per cent, which also assured them of the Adjudicator’s Award in their section. The sisters are instructed by Ron Frayne of Mitchell. Ontario Hydro office goes smoke free The Ontario Hydro office staff at Vanastra have declared their premises “smoke free,’’ and are now making an effort to have all company vehicles included in the ban. In recognition of the effort, the Huron-Perth Lung Association last week awarded the Clean Air Award to Lionel LeBrun, manager of Ontario Hydro - Clinton area. Salim Remtulla, president of the Lung Association, said the award is given to honor and congratulate employers who have taken action to ban smoking in the workplace. The office in Vanastra is one of the first Ontario Hydro offices in the province to adopt a no-smoking policy. At the council meeting held on July 2, Clerk- Treasurer Joan Armstrong was authorized to place an advertise­ ment in a construction trade journal inviting tenders for a Class 6 or 7 grader. At the same meeting, a motion was passed that will enable the township to apply to the Ministry of the Environment for a grant to initiate a re-cycling program at the landfill site. The township has placed ads in local newspapers for a small cabin trailer to be used as a shelter at the landfill site. A telephone will also be installed at the site. The Rating By-law covering tile drain loans in the amount of $9,800 was passed; and authorization was given for the payment of $27,908.39 in General Accounts, and of $69,909.61 in Road Ac­ counts. The building inspector was authorized to issue building per­ mits to W. Stewart for a granary; to L. Spivak for a garage; to W. Rutledge for an office and loading chute; and to boti M. Shetler and W.
