Phone 887-6677 Area girls win Ontario scholarships Two local girls were among six Ontario Scholars recognized for their high academic achievement at the annual Honors Banquet held June 24 at the Seaforth District High School, with one of them having the highest average for a Grade 13 student. Marie Perrie of RR 3, Brussels and Cheryl Smith of Walton were both recognized for their academic achievements during the school year, and were both named Ontario Scholars for maintaining an aver­ age of 80 per cent or higher during their final year at SDHS. As well, Miss Perrie achieved an average of 91.66 per cent throughout her final year, the highest in her grade. Miss Perrie, 19, plans to attend Brock University in St. Catharines in the fall, where she is enrolled in the four-year Honors Bachelor of Science course in Biology. She said her plans for the future are indefinite, but adds that she is proud of her status as an Ontario Scholar, because the achievement is “something you have to work for.’’ Miss Smith, 18, will attend Carleton University in Ottawa in September, for a four-year course in print journalism. She became interested in journalism after takingon thejob of editor of the SKHS newspaper, The Junction. Her plansforthe future are also indefinite at this time. Miss Perrie was also recognized as being an Honors student throughout her five years of High School; while Kim Fritz, of RR 2, Brussels, was one of ten Grade 12 students recognized for maintain­ ing an Honors standing throughout the past four years at SDHS. Walton area sports club was one of many area organizations that entered floats in the Brussels Homecoming parade on Saturday afternoon. Fraser family hosts reunion A family gathering of the Fraser Clan was held at the home of Doug and Marjory Fraser. Home for the weekend were Carolyn and Gerry Sullivan, Mark and Craig of Waterloo; Dianne and Phil Blake, Kitchener; Cheryl Fraser, Kitchener; Clayton and Bev Fraser and Jeremy of Tecum­ seh. Other relatives attended from Toronto, Cambridge, Stratford and Blyth. The family gathered to wish Carolyn and Gerry Mark and Craig a happy and safe trip to Australia. Thirty-five adults and 15 children attended the big event. Games for both the adults and the children started the day off on the right foot. Following the games, the adults had their annual ball game with the girls against the guys, and the kids were given pictures to colour and more games to play. After the ball game, we went to the hall and had a pot luck supper. Following the meal the trophies for M.V. P.’s for the ball game were handed out to Bob Humphries for the guys and Sharon Chambers for the girls. People were present for the picnic from Bayfield, Brussels, Burlington, Hagersville, Jarvis, London, Mississauga, Palmer­ ston, Sarnia and Walton.
