UCW celebrates 25 years “Called to Respond” was the theme for a special 25th Anniver­ sary Tea held in Blyth United Church on June 10. Included among the over 70 Myrtle Vodden cuts a 25th Anniversary cake while Winona McDougall watches during celebrations of the U.C. W. 25th anniversary June 10. guests were former ministers Wray Mather, St. Catherines, and Cecil Wittich, Listowel and their wivesandpresentminister Ken Bauman. Also present was the Huron-Pertn Presbyterial Presi­ dent, Alma Langford of Exeter. The afternoon began with a delightful program. Charter Presi­ dent Myrtle Vodden welcomed everyone and Joanne Bauman opened with prayer. President Susan Howson introduced the special guests, who in turn broughtgreetings. An amusing skit revised by Adeline Campbell anddirected by Melda McElroy compared U.C.W. in 1962 with today. Acting in the skit were Adeline Campbell, Mary Wight­ man, Grace Poore, Mary Holland, Candice Howson, Pat Sparling, Lenora Davidson, and Susan How­ son. Sharon Wittich favoured the group with two lovely solos, followed by a memorial service in honour of deceased charter mem­ bers conducted by Evalena Web­ ster. The program ended with Susan Howson playing her auto harp and singing the theme song, “Called to Respond’’. Charlotte Bell and Winona McDougall assisted Myrtle Vod­ den in cutting the cake (made and decorated by Myrtle Vodden). Lunch and a social time followed. Elston announces grant for W. Wawanosh Murray Elston, MPP for Huron- Bruce, recently announced $65,000 in supplementary funds for West Wawanosh Township. He made the announcement on behalf of the Honorable Ed Fulton, Minister of Transportation and Communications. * ‘These funds represent a signi­ ficant contribution to the transpor­ tation system in West Wawanosh Township,” Hon. Murray Elston said. This additional funding was made possible by the treasurer’s announcement in his budget of Referral program A London woman has been selected as program director for the brand new Huron Alcohol and Addiction Assessment and Referr­ al Program. Announcement of the appoint- mentof Linda Prince as the new program director was made to Huron County Council at its regular June meeting by Dr. James McGregor of Wingham, the coun­ ty’s acting medical officer of health. The provincally funded program May 20, 1987, as part of the Government’s effort to improve and rehabilitate the municipal road systems in Ontario. ‘ ‘The Government of Ontario is committed to roads and highways as generators of economic growth and as links for families and emergency services,” he said.
