Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Len Archambault of Auburn and Mrs. Frank Johnston of Londes- borough. A trousseau tea at the home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham in honour of her daughter Linda’s forthcom­ ing marriage, on Saturday, July 4th, 2p.m. -5p.m., and7p.m. to9 p.m. Knox United Church Services for the month of July will be held at 10 a.m. Confirmation service held at Knox United Church Pastor Gary Shuttleworth con­ ducted the confirmation service at Knox United Church. The organ prelude was by choir director Lori Millian. Call to Worship, Prayer of Invocation and Life and Work of the church were given and “Blessed Assurance” was sung. Prayer of Confession and Words of Assurance were Mr. Gerald McIntyre and friend of London visited Saturday even­ ing with his uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jardin and family, and Mrs. Bonnie Armour and Julia of Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett of Amherstburg visited Mrs. Eiva Straughan on Wednesday last week. Decoration Sunday at Ball’s Cemetery will be held on July 5th at 3 p.m. with Rev. Pickell of Goderich conducting the service. given followed by the Lord’s Prayer. The Act of Confirmation took place and Julie and Leona Cunn­ ingham were welcomed as new members of the United Church of Canada. The children’s hymn “Jesus Loves Me” was sung and they went to Junior Congregation with their On June 24 the Auburn U.C.W. celebrated the 25th Anniversary of theU.C.W.at8p.m. at the church. A number of former members were present from Lucknow, Exeter, Blyth and Goderich. The meeting opened with a three-act play “Through the Years”. This was the story of the formation of the U.C.W. by joining of the W.A. and W.M.S. 25 years ago and then through the years until today. It was an excellent play and also very amusing. Actors were Mrs. R. Koopmans, Mrs. D. Haines, Mrs. M. McDougall, Mrs. B. Chamney, Mrs. T. Jardin, Mrs. J. Armstrong, Mrs. J. Vincent, Mrs. O. Anderson, Mrs. P. Verbeek, Mrs. D. Bean and Mrs. G. Park. Following the play Mrs. Verbeek introduced the guest speaker Mrs. W. Howson who is president of the teachers. “I need Thee Every Hour” was sung. The pastor’s sermon was entitl­ ed “Who are God’s People?” Offering was received by Lawrence Plaetzer, Murray Rollison, Teadde Bakker and Ken Ramsey. “Who Is on the Lord’s Side” was sung. Pastor Shuttleworth pronounced the Benediction and services clos­ ed with “Three Fold Amen’s”. Blyth U.C.W. She spoke on Leadership and of the help receiv­ ed from the executive and U.C.W. members. She told of the qualities that make a leader and stressed how every woman of the United Church is a U.C.W. member. Mrs. Howson closed with an appropriate poem followed by prayer. Mrs. E. Lapp thanked Mrs. Howson for her inspiring speech. Mrs. Verbeek gave the medita­ tion speaking about the intent and purpose of the U. C. W. of study and work through the years. She closed with prayer. Offering was received by Mrs. Wingham Hospital Auxiliary meets The June meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Wingham and District Hospital was held on Monday, June22in the hosptial Board Room, presided over by the President, Marie Phillips. A report of the Spring Conven­ tion of District No. 2 held on May 27 at Fergus was given by Jan Heinmiller. A total of $646,659 was raised and 224,205 volunteer hours worked. The guest speaker, Mr. Hayes, spoke of the greater proportion of patients in the hospital as being over the age of 55. There is now a shortage of active treatment beds Vincentand Mrs. Chamney and offertory prayer given. “I feel the Winds of God” was the sung and Mrs. Verbeek closed the worship with the U.C.W. benediction. Abeautiful Anniversary cake decorated by Mrs. B. Millian in the blue and green U.C.W. Logo design was brought forward. Mrs. E. Wightman, Lucknow, who had recently celebrated her 90th birth­ day was the oldest U.C.W. mem­ ber present, cut the cake. Mrs. Wightman wished every success to the U.C.W. in future years. The next regular meeting of the Auxiliary will be held on Sept. 28 with Mrs. M. Kerlin of Mount Forest, President of District No. 2, as guest speaker.
