Top Hullett Central students honoured at graduation HullettCentral Public School held their Grade 8 graduation banquet at Londesboro Hall on June 23. The banquet opened with grace and a toast to the Queen by Denise Gross. Following dinner there was appreciation shown to the ladies by Richard Bergsma for preparing the dinner. The introduction of head table was given by Lisa Kennedy, then of the guests and the graduates. John Jewitt gave greet­ ings from the board. A toast to the graduates was given by Mr. E. Lockhart. A reply to the toast was given by Angela McCool. The introduction of the teachers was given by Tim Airdrie and Shannon Duizer and replied to by Mr. Ron Jewitt. The program and presentation of graduation certificates was completed at the school. There was Londesboro Compiled by Mrs. Dora Shobbrook. Phone 523-4250 a grade 8 graduates slide presenta­ tion and songs, “Candle on the water” and “Somehwere out there”, were sung. Awards were presented as follows: History and Geography, Paul Jewitt, presented by Helen Lawson from the Happy Gang Senior Citizens; French, toTim Airdrie, presented by Mr. Griffin for Happy Gang Senior Citizens; Mathematics, to David Werkema, presented by Keith Allen for T.B. Allen Ltd.; English, Shannon Duizer, presented by Margaret Wright for Summerhill Club; Penmanship, Tracy Kennedy, pre­ sented by Mr. Gingerich for Mr. and Mrs. A. MacLennan; Out­ standing boy athlete, Scott Vod­ den, in memory of the late Ted Pickett, by Mr. and Mrs. John Jewitt; Outstanding girl athlete, to Karen Plunkett, in memory of the late Ted Pickett, presented by Mr. and Mrs. John Jewitt; Inudstrial arts, Richard Bergsma, presented by Margaret Taylor for Londesboro Women’s Institute; Family servi­ ces, Michael Merner, presented by Margaret Taylor for Londesboro Women’s Institute; Music, to Kim Mayberry, presented by Mr. and Mrs. Allan Bosman, in memory of Amy; Effort and Co-opera-tion, Ken Penfound, presented by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee; Top boy graduate, Shane Taylor, presented by Mr. Art Airdrie for Londesboro Lions Club; Top girl graduate, Annette Lockhard, presented by Mr. Craig for Londesboro Lions Club. Paul Jewitt introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Bob Shrier. Appreci­ ation of the guest speaker was shown by Michael Merner. Intro­ duction of the Valedictorian was given by David Werkema. The valedictorian was Shane Taylor. O Canada was sung by Barbara Bosman. Bob Shrier gave each of the graduating class an autograph­ ed copy of his book, ‘ ‘Let’s think for a minute.” Couple weds in Londesboro Church Congratulations to Brenda Mil­ lar and Alan Young who were married June 27 in the church. Congratulations to Earl and Marilyn Johnston on the birth of their son Robert Trent on June 27 in Stratford Hospital, first grandchild for Dorothy and Frank Johnston and eighth for Betty and Len Archambault. Great-grandpar­ ents are Bob and Bertha Johnston. Margaret Taylor, President of West Huron W.I. attended Tiger Dunlop W.I. at Benmiller on Thursday. Mrs. Clara Riley hosted a shower for her great niece Lauma Riley of Fonthill. Those attending were her moth- erandsisters, her grandmother Ora Bruce, Linda, Janette, Ange­ la, aunts and cousins. Atthe July8W.I. meeting Feme McClure will be showing pictures. Roll call will be: “ Where would you like to spend your next holiday?” Cathy Vella of Toronto spent last week with her mother Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vodden. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen return­ ed home on Wednesday after a vacation through northern Ontario to Saskatchewan to North Dakota and back through the northern United States. They visited with their grandson Brian Jackson in Fort Frances and cousins in Delisle and Conquest, Sask. Wednesday evening visitors with Mrs. Dora Shobbrook were granddaughters, Joan Garrow, R.N., Ottawa; Dora Lynn Blake, Vicky and Chastity Colquhoun, Clinton. Staff Sargeant Richard and Jean Shaddick, Sandra, David, Lynn and Nancy of Ottawa spent several days last week with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. On Saturday Jeff, Karin, Shad­ dick, Danny, Stephen and Krystal of London and Derk and Lloy Garlichs, Waterloo visited then- parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. Anyone interested in volunteer umpiring for the children’s team please sign the sheet on the bulletin board at the hall diamond in Londesboro. SUMMER SCHOOL 1987 The Huron County Board of Education offers the following courses at Central Huron Secondary School from Thursday, July 2nd to July 24th, 1987. A. Thirteen Happy Gang Seniors participated. Games played were: cribbage, Cliff Saundercock and Jim McEw- ing; shuffleboard, Audrey Thomp­ son, Hazel Reid; 5 pin bowling, Edythe Beacom, Don Buchanan, June Fothergill, Jack Lee, Bob Thompson; crokinole, Clara Riley, Lome Hunking; euchre, Jean Scott, Dora Shobbrook. There were no winners but all report a good time. Everyone enjoyed a hot beef banquet. The guest speaker was Mr. Jack Riddell, MPP Huron.
