Phone 526-7589 Linda Cunningham honoured with shower A bridal shower in honour of Linda Cunningham was held Thursday evening, June 18 at the Knox United Church, Auburn. Mrs. Brian Hallam was the master of ceremonies for the occasion. Corsages were pinned on the bride-to-be, her mother Mrs. Tom Cunningham and her maid- of-honor-to-be, Debbie Cunning­ ham and the groom’s mother Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer. Asingsongwasconductedby Lori Millian with Mrs. Barry Millian the accompanist. Mrs. Lloyd Penfound gave a reading “ Popping Corn. ” Two contests were enjoyed, given by Glenyce McClinchey. Anita Gross kept the crowd laughing with her recitation “Going to a Wedding.” Miss Cunningham, her mother, Auburn UCW unit names new secretary Mrs. Tina Empey welcomed members of Unit 1 Auburn U.C.W. to her home on Tuesday evening June 9. The topic for the evening worship was “Love”. Mrs. Robert Arthur led in prayer followed by the scripture reading from John I Chapter 4 by Mrs. William L. Craig. She closed with a poem by Margaret Henderson, “It can be done.” Mrs. Empey opened the medita­ tion by saying that we must rise above selfish aims. Love is never wasted even enemies can become your friends with it. Mrs. Arthur continued on Christian love speak­ ing about world wide evangelism. She closed with an appropriate poem, “Small Potatoes” and Mrs. Empey led in prayer. The meeting was turned over to the president Mrs. Mannus Bakker. She thank­ ed those participating in the Sunday School awards given On Sunday, June 21 the superin­ tendent Gary Shuttleworth handed out diplomas and seals for atten­ dance to the following pupils at Knox United Church Sunday School: First Year Diploma - Josh Middelkamp, Robbie Young; Se­ cond Year Seal-Joel Arthur, Kevin Millian, David Haggitt, Aaron Shuttleworth, Graham Worsell; Third Year Seal - Melissa Hanna, Amanda Hanna, Courtney Rut- People around Auburn Mr. William Anderson of New­ market visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jar din and Mrs. Elva Straughan spent a few days in Meaford last week. They visited Mrs. Clayton Robertson and Mr. Robertson who is a patient in Meaford Hospital. Decoration Sunday at Ball’s Cemetery will be July 5 with Rev. Pickell of Goderich conducting the service. The U.C.W. general meeting will be on June 24 at 8 p. m. This will be a celebration of the 25th anniversary and the guest speaker will be Mrs. Susan Howson. Former members and friends are welcome. and Debbie Cunningham were invited to the platform and Miss Annette Losereit gave an appro­ priate address. The gifts were then presented to the bride by Miss McClinchey and Miss Losereit and several other young ladies. Linda thankedeveryone for the lovely gifts and invited them to her trousseau tea at her home on July 4. The gifts were then on display and everyone was able to talk to the bride-to-be and her family. Lunch was served by the Walkerburn Club and the shower came to its close. The church basement was beau­ tifully decorated for the occasion by Mrs. Dana Bean and Mrs. Rick Archambault. Special guests for the event were Miss Cunning­ ham’s grandparents Mr. and Mrs. E. Grigg of Clinton. service. The secretary’s report was read and approved. As the treasur­ er Mrs. Christine Shuttleworth is leaving, Mrs. Ross Dobie was appointed to take her place until the end of the year. “Church in Society” is the topic for the September General meet­ ing with Mrs. Ross Dobie in charge of it and Mrs. Don Haines and Mrs. Maurice Bean will take care of the worship. On July 10, a hot turkey supper for 25 to 30 guests is to be held in the church. Unit I will be responsible. Mrs. Bakker spoke on coming events, taking U.C.W. pictures after church on June21, the special U.C.W. general meeting on June 24. The Ode was said and Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada was sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. There were 11 members and three guests present. The minutes, correspondence and financial statement were given by the secretary Mrs. Robert Peck. Family and Consumer Affairs was the topic with Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Lillian Leatherland in charge. Sherry Souch, [right] shows Sarah Allan [left] and Michelle Nesbit what to do if a baby starts choking during a demonstration by the St. John’s Ambulance as part of a baby-sitter’s training course al Blyth Public School. The demonstration used dolls to let the sitters try out their new techniques. The card report was given by Mrs. Lillian Leatherland. Mrs. Elliott Lapp read a reading “Have You Noticed”. The reports from the District Annual, held in Blyth, were given.
