Hotel owner says no change planned
There has been no application to
change the Blyth Inn from a Hotel
to a tavern, owner Peter Irwin told
Blyth Village Council June 9.
Mr. Irwin said because of some
renovations being considered he
had written to the Liquor Licencing
Board of Ontario (LLBO) asking
what would be involved in such a
change. He had not, however,
requested it.
He was appearing before council
at council’s request after last
month council had received a letter
from the LLBO asking for its
comments on an application to
change the licence of the hotel. Mr.
Irwin said someone at the LLBO
had obviously jumped to conclu
sions. He outlined for council some
Swinging Seniors
take a trip
The June meeting of the Blyth
Swinging Seniors took the form of
an enjoyable bus trip to points
North. This was in conj unction with
the Horticulture Society.
The first stop was at the Pine
River cheese factory. This is quite a
new, modern factory where the
latest methods are used.
Bruce Agra Park was the next
place visited. To see an acre of
tomatoes in a green house was an
interesting sight. There were also
many bedding plants such as
marigolds, impatience and petun
ias.
Bruce Nuclear Energy Centre
was the next stop where visitors
saw a very informative movie on
the power development. The popu
lation here is just about half of what
it used to be. A highlight here was
being treated to a delicious full
course meal.
Members then travelled to
FevershamTroutFarm. Itwas a
fascinatingsighttosee so many
fish swimming around.
Hills Gardens was the last stop.
Those who belonged to the Horti
culture Society were especially
interested as the owner here had
been the speaker at one of their
meetings. Supper at Mount Forest
climaxed a very educational and
interesting trip.
The July meeting will be a picnic
at St. Christopher’s Beach, south
at Goderich on Wednesday, July 22
at 12 noon.
A special event coming up is the
dinner at Huron view on Thursday,
June 25 at 12:45 at a cost of $300.
There will also be a program with
entertainment by the Huron
Strings. It is hoped a good number
will attend.

the village has been completed for

to be done later. He also reported
that 12 new street lights at a cost of
$99 each had been purchased.

Council approved the naming of
Helen Grubb, clerk-treasurer as
the “trainee” under a grant
program from the province. The
program will pay $7,500 for the
first year. Mrs. Grubb will take a
course at Fanshawe College one
night a week for 12 weeks as part of
the training. The grant will help
offset costs of bringing in extra
help when she is away at classes.

Councillor William Manning
complained about the amount of
tire-squealing at three or four in
the morning on Saturdays. There
wasn’t much use calling the
Ontario Provincial Police, he said,
because “they’d come along Tues
day of next week.”*****
Estimates put the cost of
alterations to the buiidiiig tohouse
the lift for the handicapped at the
Blyth and District Community
Centre at nearly $23,000, Council
lor William Howson reported from
the arena board meeting. This is
considerably above the first pre
diction and means the cost of the
project will increase.
