Phone 887-6677 Walton UCW learns about hymn composer Walton I unit met in the church basement for their June meeting on Wednesday evening. Melva Fraser opened with a reading following through the devotions on communications, as­ sisted by Viola Kirkby with meditation and a prayer. Hymns were sung from the New Hymnary with Doreen Hackwell as pianist. Offering was received and dedi­ cated. Edith Wey took the topic, speaking on T. Herbert O’Driscoll who was famous for his hymn writing. Several numbers from a song sheet were sung with Edith at the piano. The meeting was turned over to Phyllis Mitchell, vice-president with Audrey Hackwell reading minutes and several thank you cards. Those who didn’t answer the roll call on an article from the church paper had to pay a fine. Several announcements of com­ ing events were brought from the recent U.C.W. meeting. Plans were made for the lunch to be served following the Masons Ser­ vice on Sunday, June 28. Six from eachunitare to take one doezen muffins. It was voted not to have a bakeless bake sale this year. Copper contest leaders gave their reports. ViolaKirkby-$130and Audrey Hackwell - $190. Unit I is to place flowers in the church in July. Several were assigned to have flowers there on that Sunday. The meeting closed with the Benediction. FollowingGrace a tasty lunch was served by Maxine Marks, Marion Godkin and Doreen Hackwell. Higgins reunion held On Sunday, Ken and Judy Shortreed, Rob, Kendra and Amy and Isabelle Shortreed attended the annual Higgins reunion in Belmore. About70family mem­ bers gathered in the park for a social time and a smorgasbord supper in the Community Hall. Guests with Nelson and Maxine Marks and Blaine following the confirmation service at Duff’s Friends and relatives of mem­ bers of the confirmation class attended the morning service of Duff’s United Church. Profession of Faith and Promises of Confirma­ tion were taken by Glenda Carter, SteveFritz, NancyGodkin, Ben Smith reunion held Approximately 65 people atten­ ded the Smith reunion at the Walton Hall Sunday, June 14. They were present from Kitch­ ener, Waterloo, Ethel, Brussels, Blyth, Clinton, Brucefield, Listow- el, Ilderton, Lucan, Hanover, Kincardine, Hamilton, Minden, Tillsonburg, Belgrave, and Red Deer, Alberta. After an enjoyable noon meal the afternoon was spent visiting and the children played games outside. The next reunion will be held in two years. United Church on Sunday were Ken and Betty Hulley, Darlene and Denise, Londesboro; Brian, Shar­ on Pryce, Trish and Brent of Winthrop and Tracey Salverda, Londesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson and Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall were luncheon guests following the Sunday morning church ser­ vice with Mrs. Bev Stevenson, Ron and Chris. Hoegy, Sherry Hoegy, Blaine Marks, Ron Stevenson, Amy Workman from Walton and Hea­ ther Wheeler, Bluevale. The service was led by Rev. Bonnie Lamble, the Junior Choir sang two numbers. Marion Godkin was organist.
