PAGE 11. stockyard The market at Brussels Stock- yards continued to trade on a steady market with last week’s sale. Cows sold on a strong demand at $1.00 to $2.00 higher. Pigs were barely steady. There were 577 cattle and 731 pigs on offer. Choice steers sold from $93 to $97 with sales to $100.50 per hundredweight. Good steers were $87 to $93. A steer consigned by Gordon Daer of RR 1, Auburn weighing 1400 lbs. sold for $100.50 with his total offering of seven steers averaging 1144 lbs. selling for an overall price of $95.17. Fourteen steers consigned by Glen Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale averaging 1231 lbs. sold for an average price of $94.76 with sales to $98.75. A steer consigned by Wilhelm Bros, of RR 4, Walkerton weighing 1130 lbs. sold for $98.75 with their total lot of six steers averaging 1188 lbs. selling for an overall price of $97.05. Ten steers consigned by Tom and Roger Moore of RR 4, Goderich averaging 1186 lbs. sold Farm Cattle do well at Fair for $94.16 with sales to $98.50. A steer consigned by Jack Shiell of RR 3, Wingham weighing 1190 lbs. sold for $97 with his total offering of 20 steers averaging 1205 lbs. selling for an overall price of $94.13. Six steers consigned by Terry McCarthy of RR 1, Dublin averaging 1255 lbs. sold for an overall price of $89.78 with sales to $96.25. A steer consigned by John McMillan of RR 2, Atwood, weighing 1130 lbs. sold for $95.50 with his total offering of six steers averaging 1098 lbs. selling for an overall price of $90.80. Seven steers consigned by Gord | RoulstonofRR 1, Ripley averaging i 1289 lbs. selling for an average price of $92.72 with sales to $95. A steer consigned by Bruce Bros, of RR 1, Belgrave weighing 1180 lbs. sold for $96.25 with their total lot of ten steers averaging 1288 lbs. selling for an overall price of $92.63. Choice exotic heifers were $92 to $96 with sales to $100.25. Choice white-faced heifers were $86 to $92. Good heifers sold from $83 to $86. A heifer consigned by Neil Rintoul of RR 2, Lucknow weighing 1070 lbs. sold for $100.25. A heifer consigned by Jack Cardiff of RR 5, Brussels weighing 990 lbs. sold for $98.25 with his total offering of 46 heifers averaging 944 lbs. in weight and selling for an overall price of $88.54. A heifer consigned by Roy Collins of RR 2, Tara weighing 1060 lbs. sold for $97.50 with his total offering of 12 heifers averaging 1022lbs. sellingfor an overall price of $90.46. A heifer consigned by Arnott Armstrong of RR 3, Ayton weighing 970 lbs. sold for $95.75. Seventeen heifers consigned by J & M Ranch of Brussels averaging 957 lbs. sold for an overall price of $89.04 with sales to $95.25. Two heifers consigned by Clare Million of RR3, Auburn averaging 1010 lbs. sold for $94.21. A heifer consignedby Charlie Osterndorff of RR 1, Elmwood weighing 1020 lbs. sold for $94.75. Seven heifers consigned by Wm. Koeslag of RR 3, Clifford averag­ ing 1173 lbs. sold for an overall price of $87.81 with sales to $94.25. Three heifers consigned by Ja- manda Farms of RR 1, Ethel averaging 1007 lbs. sold for $93. Eight heifers consigned by Gordon Dougherty of RR 3, Goderich averaging 1198 lbs. sold for an average price of $90.03. A heifer consigned by Kevin John­ ston of RR2, Bluevale weighing 1000 lbs. sold for $92. Choice cows sold from $66 to $69. Good cows were $61 to $66. Canners and cutters were $58 to $61. Thirty to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of 1.37 per lb.; 40 - 501b. pigs traded to a high of 1.15 per lb.; 50 - 60 lb. pigs traded to a high of 1.11 per lb.; 60 - 70 lb. pigs traded to a high of 1.05 per lb.; 70 - 801b. pigs traded to a high of .99 per lb. In the Holstein Show, Kada Farms of RR 2, Bluevale, owned by Keith and Bonnie Johnston, show­ ed the Senior Champion Female, Oralea Bunny Tempter, which also placed first in both the five-year- old female and in the Best Udder classes. Kada Farms also took a second place ribbon with a four- year-old female. Kennairn Farms of RR 3, Blyth, owned by Ken and Shirley Ram­ sey, was the runner-up in overall points in the Holstein show, placed first in the Progeny of Dam class, and was second with the Breeder’s Herd. Other Kennairn winners were: Senior Heifer Calf, sixth, seventh and eighth; Junior Year­ ling Heifer, fourth; Dry Cow, sixth and eighth; three-year-old female, first, fourth and seventh; four- year-old female, sixth; five-year- old female, second; Mature Cow, eighth; and Best Udder, third. AdrieBosofRR 3, Blyth, took first place with a two-year-old female, as well as taking a sixth ribbon in the same class. In other classes, Mr. Bos’s Holsteins plac­ ed as follows: Senior Yearling Calf, third, fourth and fifth; Junior Yearling Heifer, sixth and seven­ th; Senior Yearling Heifer, sixth | and seventh; and four-year-old female, eighth. John Wiersma of RR 1, Blyth, placed second with a Holstein Senior Heifer Calf; fifth with a Junior Yearling Heifer; fourth and fifth with Senior Yearling Heifers; and took a fifth place ribbon in the four-year-oldfemale, Dry Cow, and Mature Cow classes. Still with Holsteins, Jim Halla- han of RR 3, Blyth, placed second with a mature cow; and Ross Veitch ofRR3, Brussels, placed fourth with a five-year-old female. John Bos of RR 3, Auburn placed 10th withatwo-year-oldfemale; and W.J. Richards of RR 4, Brussels, placed 10th with a four-year-old female. Only two local breeders exhibit­ ed animals in the Ontario Spring Jersey Show, but between them managed to take a number of ribbons home to the Auburn area.
