Visitors at Doreen and Frank
Rutledge’s, were cousins of
Frank’s who had not met for 42
years. They were Edna and
Lawrence Hardy of Rothley Eng
land.
For a week they enjoyed being
shown Huron County, also having
lunch with John Rutledge of Blyth.
After driving them to Owen
Sound where they are staying with
Lawrence’s relatives, the Rut
ledge’s spent a night with their
relatives June and Bert MacDon
ald.
If you see anything kind of odd
going on up on Mill St. W. it’s just
Jack Clark trying out his new
skateboard that he won from
E.M.A. “Good Luck Jack.’’
The Horticultural Society re
ports that the community flower
beds and boxes have all been
planted and hope that with suitable
weather and co-operation from
everyone they will provide a spot of
colour in the Homecoming celebra

people through donations and
willingness to water the flowers is
much appreciated, society mem

Apology
In last week’s report on a debate
over the extension of John Street to
service the 'Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre, The
Citizen said that a three-way
argument broke out at the end of
the meeting between councillors
Gordon Workman, Neil McDonald
and Malcolm Jacobs. Because of
the type of debate being waged,
our reporter did not have word by
word quotes and another neutral
observer felt that Councillor
Jacobs did not take an active part in
the discussion. We therefore
apologize to Councillor Jacobs for
the error and hope it has not caused
him embarrassment.

Councillor Malcolm Jacobs ex
pressed concern about bands
“getting out of hand’’ and playing
too long at events at the arena. He
said a recent Saturday night event
the band had played until 1:35 a.m.
Outside the arena, he said, there
were glasses all over the place.*****
Councillor Jacobs, reporting for
the property committee said he
would like to see a street light
installed on the west side of
Turnberry at the corner of Mill St.
because of the lack of light at the
corner and the danger it caused.

PUBLIC MEETING
TODETERMINETHENEEDFORAREVISIONOFTHE
VILLAGE OFBRUSSELSSECONDARYPLAN AND
TO CONSIDER APROPOSED OFFICIALPLAN AMENDMENT
AFFECTINGTHE VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS
Take Notice that the Council of the Corporation of the County
of Huron will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, July 15,
1987 at 8:00 p.m. in the Basement of the Brussels Library to
consider two issues -1 ] to allow the public to comment on the
need for a revision of the Secondary Plan for the Village of
Brussels under Section 26of the Planning Act [1983] and 2] to
consider a proposed Official Plan Amendment under Section
17 of the Planning Act [1983].
The Planning Act [1983] requires that municipalities provide
the public with the opportunity through a special meeting of
Council to comment upon the need for the revision of the
Village Secondary Plan. This meeting is an opportunity for
anyone with comments or suggested changes to make their
thoughts known to Council.
The proposed Official Plan Amendment seek to carry out
revisions to the Secondary Plan in 7 separate areas as
follows:
1. Economic Development Policies
The proposed Official Plan Amendment would include
Economic Development policies to promote the Village
of Brussels and include any efforts which benefit the
community as a whole. These activities could include
the following: neighbourhood improvement, industrial
development, tourist promotion, and community
activities, all of which contribute to community identity
and economic stability.
2. Site Plan Control
The proposed Official Plan Amendment would include
policies pertaining to the use of site plan control. The
areas to be subject to site plan control will include
commerical; industrial; institutional; high density;
medium density; nursing homes; rest homes. Site Plan
Control provisions will enable Council to pass by-laws
which require the submission and approval of site plans
by Council.
3. Public Participation and Public Notice
The proposed Official Plan Amendment reduces the
length of time required for notice of a public meeting
from 30 days to 21 days for the purpose of a public
meeting for a zoning amendment.
4. Holding Zone Provisions
The proposed Official Plan Amendment would
establish holding zone policies. These would apply
where the use of land has been established and where
the details of development have not been determined.
Development of a site cannot proceed until the holding
symbol is removed.
5. Property Standard Provisions
The proposed Official Plan Amendment would
establish property standards to control the appearance
and condition of property and maintain and improve the
maintenance and occupancy of the physical and
structural resources in the community of Brussels.
6. A number of minor technical and wording changes to bring
the Official Plan into conformity with the Planning Act
[1983] and to clarify wording.
7. A number of map changes to Schedule B including those
on the attached map.
ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make
written or verbal representation either in support of or in
opposition to the proposed official plan amendment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the proposed
official plan amendment is available for inspection at the
Huron County Planning Department, Court House,
Goderich, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and at the
Brussels Municipal Office.
