The Citizen, 1987-05-27, Page 23Women Today gets project funding from Ontario government Women Today, a Huron County women’s advocacy group, has received a grant of $13,500 from the provincial Ministry of Health, money which will be added to an earlier grant of $15,000 from the Ontario Women’s Directorate to fund the production of a video tape and support material documenting the work the group has done over the past two years under a project entitled “Women Being Well.” In making the announcement recently, on behalf of Minister of Health Murray Elston, Huron- Middlesex MPP Jack Riddell said that the provincial government is very supportive of the project “ as it will increase community aware ness of women’s health issues and encourage women to take respon sibility for their own health.” Project co-ordinator Valerie Bol ton, of RR 1, Belgrave added that the news of the grant was very exciting not only because it will mean that the women’s health project can now continue into its third year, but that it also means the contribution of Women Today has been recognized by the provincial government, a major achievement in the group’s six- year history. “Up until now our funding has come from the federal govern ment,” she said. “It is much more difficult to get money for this kind of thing from the provincial government; it means that we have been successful in demonstrating our worth.” She said that over the past six years, Women Today has been responsible for attracting $250,000 in project funding to Huron County, and has provided jobs for a number of women.
