The half-day sale was very well attended, and funds raised will go toward UCW projects. Horticulturalists hear of Junior Farmers Auburn Compiled by Mrs. Mildred Lawlor. Phone 526-7589 UCW studies book The Horticulture Society meet­ ing was held Wednesday night, May 13 at the Auburn Community Hall with a good attendance. The Vice President, Mrs. Maurice Bean chaired the meeting and welcomed all present. The meeting opened with O Canada with Mrs. Don Haines as, pianist. Kay Lapp introduced the guest speaker, Miss Tammy Shut­ tleworth who was crowned Queen at the Huron County Junior Farmer’s on May 2. She gave her speech and stated that you learn a lot, meet new friends and new skills by being a member of the Junior Farmer’sOrganization. She also gave a monologue which was very interesting. Jean Plaetzer thankedTammy and presented her with a gift. The minutes were read by the secretary Anne Vincent and trea­ surer’s report, given by Ell Lapp. He also stated that there were 134 members so far in the Society. Mrs. Maurice Bean called Mrs. Margaret Robinson tothefrontand Marian Haggitt spoke a few words of Margaret’s past duties in the Society and other work she and her late husband Ross had done around the village and presented her with a gift. Margaret replied WMS hears of Presbyteria! The month meeting of the Women’s Missionary Society was held at the home of Mrs. Don Cartwright. The president Mrs. Martha Daer presided and gave the Call to Worship. The devotion­ al period was in charge of Mrs. Marion Haggitt who read the gospel for the third Sunday after Knox United Church news Pastor Shuttleworth conducted the morning service at Knox United Church with Organ Prelude by Miss Lori Millian. The Call to Worship was read responsively. Life and Work of the Church were given followed by hymn. “Stand up and Bless the Lord’’. Prayer of confession and words of assurance were given followed by “Lord’s Prayer’’. Janice Webster gave a piano instrumental. The children’s hymn, “JesusLoves even Me’’ and thanked all. She now resides in Goderich. Reports were given from the District Annual, which was held at Seaforth April 4, by Anne Vincent and Mrs. Bean. They stated that one speaker had spoken on the dreaded dandelion, that it looked pretty and can be eaten and also tea was made from it. Another talk was on Raised Beds. Anne explained this by pictures she had drawn and there would be no weeds in planting this way. Mrs. Bean gave tips on flowers etc. from that meeting and stressed that every­ one should try and go to these meetings as you can learn so much from the speakers. She also spoke on Down Town Heritage on the main street in Seaforth, keeping up old buildings and landscaping etc. Roll call was answered by garden tips and something new you were going to try this year. Door prizes were drawn. A lovely geranium donated by Bill and Maxine Seers was won by Shannon McClinchey and other prizes to Dorothy Grange and Kris Korstanje. Business contained flowers beds, planting and water­ ing of the baskets and Manchester Garden and helpfordoing these things. There was a large plant sale withauctioneersbeingLois Haines Easter. A poem was read by Martha Daer. The guest speaker Mrs. McAli­ ster gave an interesting account of the Presbyterial meeting held in Listowel recently. A get-well card was signed by all present for Mrs. Jean Andrews. The next meeting will be at the home of Carol Daer, June 9 at 8 p.m. was sung. The Pastor told the children’s story and they went to Junior Congregation with their teachers Margaret Bakker, Janice Webster, Allison Chamney and Christine Shuttleworth. The pastor’s sermon was entitled “The things which must be hereafter.’’ Offering was received by Mur­ ray Rollinson and Ken Ramsey. The pastor pronounced the Bene­ diction and the service closed with the Congregational Benediction “Lord We Pray’’. and Kay Lapp and the sale brought $88. Lunch was served by Mrs. Tom Lawlor, Mrs. Violent Durnin and Mrs. Viola Raithby and a social time enjoyed. Unit 1 of the Auburn U.C.W. metinthechurchonMay 11 at8 p.m. The theme of the meeting was Psalms and Mrs. Stanley Ball opened the meeting with a reading from Psalm 64 and 65. The hymns were all from Psalms. “The Lord is My Shep­ herd,’’ “God Is Our Refuge” and “Unto the Hills’’ were sung throughout the service with Mrs. Barry Millian as accompanist. Mrs. Don Haines gave an interst­ ing topic on Psalms with various readings of the same interpersed. The offering was received and Mrs. Ball led in prayer. She then spoke on “Tramp for the Lord” a book written by Corrie Ten Boom. It was the history of her life telling theworldofherfaithinGod. Avery interesting chapter of the book was read. After the last hymn Mrs. Ball Public relations topic for Wl The Women’s Institute meeting will be held at the Auburn Community Hall on Tuesday, May 19at2 p.m. The topic will be public relations by Mrs. Lawrence Plaet­ zer. Hostesses will be Mrs. Lillian Leatherland and Mrs. Viola Raith­ by­ closed the worship with Psalm 90 as prayer. Mrs. Marinus Bakker conducted the business. Discussion re: the upcoming garage sale took place. Various members offered to visit or write the shut-in’s. Meeting closed with lunch and then Unit II met with Unit I for making final plans for the garage sale under the capable leadership of the commit­ tee in charge. Holiday brings visitors Mrs. Bonnie Armour and Julie, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jardin and family of Kitchener spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Elva Straughan. Marjorie McDougall returned home from a visit with her son Allan and family Laura, Angie, Shane and Marcia of Sudbury. Congratulations toMr. and Mrs. Charles Merrill who celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with “Open House’’ on Sunday at the Auburn Community Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Alf Weston of Toronto are holidaying with her mother Mrs. Rollinson and brother Murray.
