The Women’s Missionary Socie­ ty of Knox Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook, held its regular month­ ly meeting at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Strickler. Mrs. Jack Knight, vice-presi­ dent, opened the meeting with a moment’s silence in memory of Mrs. Clare Veitch, the group’s late president. Mrs. Stuart Stevenson gave several appropriate readings on the theme, “Mother”. The scripture reading was in unison with the meditation by Mrs. Cranbrook people Mrs. Wray Gowing, Connie and Randy were weekend visitors with their aunt and uncle Jack and Mrs. Conley. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Don Cotton is home again after having surgery in University Hospital, London. Dean Bentley had the misfor­ tune to get his fingers caught in the chain of the lawn mower on Thursday. He was taken to Lis- towel Hospital where he remained overnight. Rebekahs show off Stevenson. Mrs. Stewart Steiss was in charge of the topic and told of the women and mothers of several Asian countries: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The conditions under which these women have to live make us realize how fortunate we are in our country. An invitation was read from Harrington to their 110th anniver­ sary, June 10. Eight members answered the roll call with a verse on “Mother”. Mrs. Stevenson reported on the Spring Executive meeting in Mitchell on May 12. Mrs. Jack Knight was appointed president for the remainder of 1987 and Mrs. Stevenson will be vice-president. Two members gave birthday money and cards and visits were recorded. All joined in the Lord’s Prayer. A brief Ladies’ Aid meeting was conducted by Mrs. Stewart Steiss. Ways to make money were discuss­ ed and a decision was left over for later. Mrs. John Vanass was appointed treasurer. Lunch was served by Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Strickler. TheMay meetingofthe Cran­ brook Foresters M100 was held in the Community Centre. All 15 members of the Executive were present except the conductor, Bro. Ross Mitchell. Secretary Sis Patsy Dickinson, recording secretary, will be living in Waterloo to further her education. She will be missed and the members hope she comes back to join them. Sis. Brenda Perrie accepted the secretary duties. District Council meeting is at Cranbrook, June 16. It was decided to continue the old time dances, the first to be Friday, October 23 in Cranbrook Commun­ ity Centre. The treasurer gave a good report andlunchwas served by Sisters Nancy Jean Craig and Mary Ellen Jacklin. The June meeting is to be the family barbecue and a good turn-out is hoped for. Local people attend WI conference VIA. members from Cranbrook who attended the District annual at Fordwich were Mrs. Leslie Knight, Mrs. Donald Perrie, Mrs. W. Strickler, and Mrs. John Vanass. Duff's church youth group plans busy month Rev. Bonnie Lamble conducted the services at Duff’s United Church, Walton and Bluevale United Church at the usual times. Greeters at Walton were Roy and Linda Gingerich. Announcements given out were that there would be no Junior Choir Practice this Thursday. Next Sun- Shower held for Mary Holmes On Sunday afternoon May 17 a bridal shower was held at the home of Mrs. Margery Huether for her niece, Mary Holmes, bride-elect in June, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holmes of Clinton. Mary Ellen Webster was in charge of the guest book. Guests attended from Ottawa, .Toronto, London, Guelph, Wing­ ham, Clinton, Varna and surround­ ing area. day the Youth Group practising music at Brussels United, Satur­ day, May 23 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, May 24 they will hold a meeting at the pavillion in Gorrie Park then go roller skating. Sunday, June 7 church picnic sponsored by the Sunday School. On Sunday, June 14, Confirmation, reception of new members and communion will be held. Walton W! holds luncheon Walton Women’s Institute will serve a turkey noon luncheon this Wednesday with the May meeting in the hall at 8:15 p.m. Dessert euchre will end the season of playing euchre in the hall on Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. new lodge to Masons The regular meeting of Morning Star RebekahLodge was held in Lodge hall. Noble Grand Mary Nichol con­ ducted the meeting. Members were informed Variety Fair proved to be a success with all unsold items packed and sent to Mission Services, London. The microwave demonstration also proved to be a successful endeavour. Plans were made for a number to attend school of instruc­ tion in Exeter on May 13. Plans for an alternate delegate to the Rebekah Assembly in June. Mem­ bers were also discussed. Mem­ bers were sorry to hear of the death of Nelva Scott’s father in Philidel- phia. A donation was to be given to Brussels, Morris and Grey Arena for the use of rooms there while the group was without a Lodge Hall. Nomination for officers for 1987-88 term took place. One member received the birthday honours. After the closing of Lodge, members of the Masonic Lodge, meeting upstairs were invited down. After being greeted by the Noble Grand, they enjoyed a lunch served by the lunch commit­ tee. Wayne Todd thanked the ladies on behalf of those present.
