The students of Shirley E.
Vincent A.R.T.C., presented a
piano recital on the evening of May
4 in Blyth United Church for a large
number of parents, grandparents
and friends.
Rev. Ken Bauman opened and
closed the recital with encouraging
words. On request of Mrs. Vincent,
he also thanked those who had a
parttoplay in thestagingof this
popular event: Bette Battye, Joan
Watson, Melda McElroy, Rena
Kolkman and Heather Bauman,
guest artist, who played three
numbers on her flute with Shirley,
the music teacher herself provid
ing piano accompaniment. They
were well received.
This year’s special feature was
four piano duets which, to the
delight of the audience, siblings
played with perfect timing, and
verve as well. These performers

AbuED 3rd FEATURE SUNDAY, MAY 17
On behalf of the students,
Pauline Stewart presented Mrs.
Vincent with a gourmet gift
package done up in an attractive
wicker basket.
Mrs. Vincent thanked her stu
dents for this kind gesture and had
a word for the parents of 17 of those
who are preparing for the Toronto
Conservatory piano Examinations
taking place in Blyth, in June. “Be
patient,’’ Shirley sayd. “Try not to
become weary of listening to the
same pieces being practised over
and over again.’’
Judging from the high quality of
work at the May 4 Vincent recital,
we are confident that continuing
practice will assure students of top
honours from the Toronto Con
servatory adjudicator in June. The
freewill offering at this event, as is
the custom, helps support the work
of the Blyth U.C. W. Evening unit.
