OFFIRR deadline May 18
May 18 is the last day to mail
applications for the 1986 Ontario
Family Farm Interest Rate Reduc
tion (OFFIRR) grant.
The grant is based on farm loans
with interest rates over eight per
cent. Short term operating loans
are also eligible under the 1986
program.
Equity in the farm must be at
least 10 per cent and not more than
75 per cent. Total family net worth -
must be less than $1,110,000.
Farm loan details require verifica
tion by the lender.
Eligible farmers who receive a
grant should consider using the
grant to pay down debt. For
example a $10,000 grant applied to
principal on a 13 per cent loan with
monthly payments and a 10-year
term would save $7,676 in interest
charges.
