“PITCH-IN” ‘87 CAMPAIGN
by Danielle Cardiff
On May 1 students from Brus
sels Public School “pitched in’’ to
clean up the town.
The Kindergarten class cleaned
up around the school yard, while
grade 1 tidied up outside the Senior
Citizens apartments. The B.M.G.
pool was taken care of by the Grade
1-2 class, and the tennis court was
tidied up by grade 3-4. Lions Park
by grade 6-7. Last but not least
grade 7-8 picked up the litter at the
arena and the dam.
The Ontario Federation of An
glers and Hunters as well as
Sunoco Inc., sponsored the clean
up and provided the immense
garbage bags.
The children enjoyed the activity
and one child was heard to say “I
may never litter again!”
Our apologies to any citizens
who, unaware of our clean up
campaign were alarmed or annoy
ed when we attempted to pick up
papers, etc. from your lawns. Our
intentions were good!

Beuermann and Brad Mulvey

Cousins and Mrs. Margery Hueth-

Mr. Dave Hastings from the

details. The students all did
projects when they came back.

and wrote a paragraph about their
field trip. Some of the town
students showed how the water got
to their houses. Most of the farm
students drew pictures of the
location of their wells. They

TRIP TO TORONTO
by David Johnston
On Friday, April 24 the grade 7-8
class went on a trip to Toronto and
Brampton.
The day began at7a.m.when
bus driver Doug Evans took them
to Brampton and Mrs. Raymond
directed him to Peel Regional
Police Headquarters.
Detective Murray Raymond
gave a great tour at Peel Regional
Headquarters. Detective Ray
mond showed a video about the
facilities at Peel Regional. AFter
the video, Murray showed the
students around the building
where they saw computers, the
communication room and the
training centre.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. the
students departed from Peel Re
gional and headed for the subway
station on Dundas West street.
There they got on the subway train
and rode it to the St. George stop on
Bloor street. They walked to the
Royal Ontario Museum where they
ate their lunches in the cafeteria.
The students went next door to
the McLaughlin Planetarium.
They were shown a short film about
the planetarium and saw a number
of interesting displays. They then
went into the immense domed
theatre for a star show which posed
the question “Is there life in our
planetary system?”
After the planetarium visit we
had a directed lesson at the
museum on the topic of dinosaurs.
Following a short tour of the
museum the students boarded
their bus to be taken back to
Brampton. They were allowed free
timeand supper at “Shopper’s
