The students lined up in alpha betical order, then one by one they walked across the gym floor and said their full name, age, teacher’s name and how they get to school while being video-taped. Being in front of the camera for some was a new and strange experience. Some students even forgot their own name! The hope is the results of this taping will never have to be used, but the Legion will make the tapes available for any emergency. Blyth Legion members helping with the tapingwere Janice Henry, Mary Lou Stewart, Betty Lair and Sheron Stadelmann. CANADA FITNESS BY STEPHANIE LENTZ AND AMBER GEL WICKS On April 28, the students of Blyth Public School will be partici pating in a Canada Fitness Day. Theevents on this day include: push-ups, curl-ups, standing long- jump and three running events. The number of events and difficulty of each event depends upon the age of the child. Since the weather has been warm we have been training to prepare for this day. The program was developed in 1970 by Fitness and Amateur Sport Canada. There will be awards handed out according to how well the children do on the six events. Get in shape everyone! Mr. Lowe, who co-hosted the evening’s fashion show, received a standing ovation from the audience when the presentation was announced by Gerry Wheeler, the show’s other host. Vice-chairman of the Brussels Homecoming Committee, Mr. Lowe is active in everything from the village’s recreation and sports programs to the local agricultural society, served a central role in the building of the BMG Community Centre and is one of the foremost proponents of the annual Brussels Santa Claus Parade, as well as performing a number of other services to the community which go virtually unnoticed because of the quiet way in which they are done. He was chosen by an independent panel of judges from among 10 nominees for the Citizen of the Year Award. Presentations were also made to three outstanding young athletes who have brought fame and recognition to the area over the past year or so: Peter MacDonald, Kerrie Shepherd, and Michelle Menzies, all nationally known figure skaters who have helped to “put Brussels on the map,’’ as Debbie Seili, co-chairman of the fashion show, said. Mr. MacDonald, of RR 2, Brussels and Miss Shepherd of RR 1, Blyth, skate together in the Novice Dance Division at a national level, most recently competing at the Canadian National Figure Skating Championships in Ottawa last February and at the Ontario Winter Games in London in March; while Miss Menzies, of Prescott, is the partner of Figure Skating Pairs champion Kevin Wheeler, of RR5, Brussels, who took both a gold in their division at the Ottawa championships, as well as a silver medal at an international competi tion in England last fall. All four skaters were guests of honour at the fund-raising fashion show, where both girls and Mr. MacDonald were presented with engraved pen sets by Brussels DECOR PAPER TOWELS PANTRY SHELF FLAKED LICHT z n u X.__> 0 DX_/_ GRANNYS BUTTER TARTS pkg of 10 REGULAR OR PULP FREE OLD SOUTH ORANGE JUICE - _ _ H _ __ ■ _ ___»99 .99 .191.9911” ASSORTED VARIETIES DUNCAN HINES CAKE MIXES 520g pkg CANADA DRY SOFT DRINKS 750ml bottles plus deposit SURF POWDERED DETERGENT 6 litre box 555ml can CHIPS PROD OF U S A CAN-1 (■ 1 96kg rei edv Bcrannysmith SIRLOIN STEAKS HUMPTY DUMPTY POTATO boneless full ROUND without coupon 1 19 SEALTEST POPSICLES pkg of 2a ass’t var PALANDA PINEAPPLE ONLY MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE... .. .W/U A Beautiful Set of PORCELAIN on STEEL COOKWARE 1 OUART OPEN SAUCEPAN WITH COUPON 3.99 CHECK FOR OUR WEEKLY SELECTIONI WITHOUT COUPON ANO S3 00 PURCHASI I yA'/. ?
