Earl and Marg Caldwell
celebrate 50 years of marriage
Many guests were present to the
Open House of Earl and Margaret
Caldwell April 11, in honour of
their 50th Anniversary.
Earl and Marg were married
April 14, 1937 in the Blyth United
Church manse by Rev. Brooks.
Their attendants were Murvin
Govier and Margaret Caldwell,
George and Luella McGowan.
After the ceremony they returned
to the McGowan’s for dinner.
Luella McGowan was the only
attendant left to attend the 50th
Anniversary. She helped the cou
ple open the many gifts as they
arrived, so Earl and Marg could
visit with the 200 guests as they
came to the house. Jack Caldwell -
their son and Lorna Fraser, his
daughter, greeted everyone at the
door as they arrived. Gail Ulch and
Donna Caldwell visited and helped
serve lunch of sandwiches and
squares. Randy Fraser took some
candid pictures of the couple and
their visitors. The great-grand
children Joe and Kathy Fraser and
Jackie Caldwell, their grand
daughter, had guests sign a guest
book. Ron Ulch helped entertain.
At 6 p.m. the family had a social
time and light lunch of crackers,
cheeseandsandwiches. Nelson
Caldwell proposed a toast to The
Most Wonderful Grandparents in
the World through hard times and
good times and someone to lean on,
and, that they could still be in love
after all these years. Three cheers
were repeated by everyone. Then
two-year-old Karl Ulch, their
great-grandson, clinked glasses
with Grandma and Grandpa.
The evening brought more
guests to the house and a great
time was had by all. Also present at
the house were: Earl’s brother
Ralph and Gladys Caldwell and
their family; sisters Ella Carter and
Dorothy and Lawrie Scott and
family; Marg’s brother, Bob and
Lois Govier; her sisters Alice
Anstay, Vi and Mel Good and
Dorothy and John Lyndon.
The sisters and sisters-in-law
and daughter-in-law Erlene Cald-
wellpouredteain the afternoon
and evening from a tea pot that was
given to Earl’s parents for their
50th Anniversary.
Dianne Dobie saw that
everything went over without a
hitch. Earl and Marg were pleased
with the turnout, God Bless all we
Know and Love.
