Easter service held at Knox United

People around the village
Pastor Gary Shuttleworth
conducted the Easter morning
service at Knox United Church.
The organ and piano prelude
was performed by Mrs. Gordon
Gross and Lori Millian. The junior
choir sang “Tell The Good News”
under the direction of Mrs. Allan
Webster and Mrs. Gordon Gross
as pianist. Prayer of Invocation and
life and work of the church were
given. “Jesus Christ Is Risen to-
day“ was sung. Prayer of Con
fession was read responsively
followed by The Lord’s Prayer.
The senior choir sang “He‘s still
the King of Kings”. The children’s
hymn was sung. Pastor Shuttle
worth told the Children’s Story
related to the Easter Lily. They
went to Junior Congregation with
their teachers Linda Dumin,
Sharon Ramsey and Ruth Anne
Bakker. “Crown Him with many
Crowns” was sung.

heads meeting
The monthly meeting of the
Presbyterian W.M.S. was held at
the home of Mrs. Marion Haggitt.
The president Mrs. Martha Daer
presided over the meeting.
The devotional period was in
charge of Mrs. Frances Clark. The
order of Service from the Glad
Tiding was followed which in
cluded hymns, scripture readings
and prayers. The “study” was in
charge of Martha Daer who read
the story of Jesus Life and cru
cifixion entitled “My name is
Mary”. The May meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Erma Cartwright,
May 12 at 8 p.m.
Healthy flock
is dub topic

The second meeting of the
Huron County Sheep Club started
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 18.
The meeting was held at Lila
Rintoul’s home.
The members opened the
meeting with the 4-H pledge. The
roll call was answered by all the
members. They talked about the
symptoms sheep get from certain
diseases and how to keep a healthy
flock.
After the meeting was dis
cussed members went to judge four
ewe lambs. Every member got a
score card and wrote down how he
placed the lambs. Members gave
their reasons for the placings. Mrs.
Florence Pullen gave the official
placing. Members then went back
to the house and the meeting was
adjourned.

The April meeting of Unit II for
Auburn U.C.W. was spent in

and for the U.C. W. Garage Sale on
May 16 to be held at the Com
munity Hall. The convenors served
lunch for a social hour.
Mrs. Jean Hodgins and Miss
Norma Courts of Wingham visited
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin on
Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Haines
returned home from Florida on
Tuesday, April 14 after spending
the winter months. Weekend vis
itors with Mrs. Elva Straughan and
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin were Mr.
Bob Oswald of Kitchener, Mrs.
Mrs. Lapp gives report
The business meeting was first at
the Auburn U.C.W. Unit I’s
meeting on Tuesday evening April
14. The president Mrs. Marinus
Bakker was in charge.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved. Mrs.
Lawrence Plaetzer asked that all
articles be turned in for display at
the Easter Thankoffering. April 29
is church cleaning and Unit I are
the downstair workers. Mrs. Elliott
Lapp gave a short report on her two
days at the 25th annual London
Conference U.C.W. meeting on
April 6 and 7. She found it both
educational and inspiring.
Worship was conducted by
Mrs. Jake Middelkamp, Mrs.
Wayne Durrrin and Mrs. Marinus
Bakker. Their topic was Easter
which brings hope, love, beauty
and life. Scriptures were read from
Isaiah and Luke and the offering
was received.
The “Old Rugged Cross” was
Clayton Robertson of Meaford and
Mrs. John Shouldice Etobicoke.
The Women’s Institute annual
banquet will be held on Thursday,
April 23 at the Candlelight in
Goderich. Convenors are to have
their reports ready to be read and
handed in at this meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McLarty
of Goderich called on Mr. and Mrs.
Tom Lawlor on Sunday.

Rising Service on Easter morning
was enjoyed. The Easter baskets
for the shut-ins were then made and
looked very attractive with their
Easter goodies. The meeting closed
with delicious hot cross buns and a
social half hour was enjoyed.
Euchre
ends
There were eight tables in play at
the euchre party held on April 14 at
the Auburn Community Hall. The
winners were: high lady, Frances
Clark; low lady, Feme Howatt;
high man, Clarence Allin; low man,
Elliott Lapp; novelty, Jeff Nesbitt.
This was the last euchre game
for the season. Prizes for the most
lone hands were given out also.
