Blyth skating club elects new executive The annual meeting of Blyth Figure Skating Club was held on April 13 at the Arena, with a small attendance. Program changes were discuss ed, as well as noting a new Club pro would be required as Margaret Dupee would not be returning. Reports from the treasurer, fund-raising committee and test chairpersons indicated there was an active group of volunteers and the skaters are progressing well. Election of officers took place, the following are the new Executive: Senior Club President, Faye Bol ger, Junior Club President, Candice Howson; Vice President Jeanette Harris; Treasurer, Bev Shaddick; Senior Testperson, Jean Nethery, assistant, Candice How- son; Canskate Test chairperson, Candice Howson; Powerskate chairperson, Wendy Murray; Fund Raising Contact person, Jean Nethery, assistant Joan Leibold; Secretary, Connie Nesbitt; Regi stration, Joan Clark and Joan Lions Head wins WOAA Int. championship The Lions Head North Stars, considered to be the weakest team of the four divisional winners, posted a 10 win - 2 loss playoff record in capturing the 1987 Grand Championship Trophy in front of a full house Saturday night. After winning the Int. ‘C’ Championship the North Stars lost the first game of the Grand Well esley Merchants by an 8-4 score. However, they rebounded and scored 12-3, 9-6 and 7-3 wins to advance to the championship final against the the Int. ‘D’ champions from Ripley. Ripley qualified for the final series by upsetting the heavily favored Int. ‘A’ Durham 72’s in a five game series. Game one of the finals went to Ripley by an 11-8 count but the boys from the North completely dominated the remainder of the series with wins of 9-1, 7-3, 11-5 and 8-6. Although all teams are not expected to return for the 1987-88 season interest has been shown from Woodford, Palmerston, New Hamburg, Ayr, Mitchell and Sea forth about possible entry into the W.O.A.A. Bad week for cars in Brussels area The beautiful Easter Sunday just past was not a happy day for two Brussels-area drivers who col lided at the comer of Tumberry and Thomas Streets, across from the EMA store in Brussels. While attempting to make a left hand turn on to Tumberry St. at 2:45 p.m., a 1983 Toyota driven by Judy Ten Pas of Brussels was struck by a 1982 AMC travelling south and driven by Thomas Struder of RR 3, Brussels. An OPP spokesman said that damage to the Ten Pas vehicle was estimated at $3,000, while the Struder car suffered about $600 worth of bumps and dents. Ms. Ten Pas has been charged with failing to yield the right of way in the inci dent. There were no injuries. On April 16, a 1978 Olds mobile driven by Helen Blake of RR 2, Brussels suddenly began to pour smoke from beneath the hood, and burst into flames as soon as Mrs. Blake was able to pull over and stop, where she escaped without injury. Brussels volunteer firemen were called out to extin guish the blaze, which resulted in $2,500 in damage to the car. The accident occurred at 5 p.m., just south of Brussels on County Road 12.
