Annual celebration heralds end of curling season The Brussels Curling Club held its annual banquet and dance on April 11 at the Legion. A roast beef dinner was served by the Legion ladies followed by the annual meeting and the awarding of the prizes. The new executive for the 1987-88 season was announced. They are: Past President, Stewart Steiss; President, Gordon Mit­ chell; First Vice-President, Doug Sholdice; Second Vice-President, Orval Bauer; Secretary-Treasurer, Nancy MacDonald Exel; bonspiel committee, Mervyn Bauer, Ernie Lewington; draw committee, John Exel, Brian Warwick, Joyce Alex­ ander, Marg Taylor; bar commit­ tee, Peter Exel, Ross Veitch, Brad Speiran; ice committee, Ron Clark­ son, Bob Alexander; prize commit­ tee, Ron Clarkson; press reporter, Velma Locking. Fran Bremner presented the Walter Scott Memorial Trophy to the overall winners of the Tuesday Afternoon Ladies Curling. They were Velma Locking, Grace Mc­ Nichol, Karen Uhler and Marje Teeft with 53 points. Stew Steiss and Gord Mitchell presented the prizes to the winners of the mix curling. November Draw: first 44 points, Howard Hackwell, Ruth Bauer, Donna Bauer, Andy Ives; second 42.5 points, Ernie Lewington, Jean Oldfield, Fred Smith; third 42 points, Orval Bauer, Joyce Alex­ ander, Velma Locking, Dean Hack­ well; fourth 38.5 points, Ross Veitch, Madelene Steiss, Bill Patterson, Jean Veitch.
