GRADES 1-2 AND 3-4
GO TO CIRCUS
On Friday, April 3 Mrs. Huether
and Mrs. Wilson took their classes
to the Garden Brothers Circus.
They saw elephants, tigers,
bears, ponies and monkeys and
bears riding bicycles. They also
saw high wire acts. Accompanying
Mrs. Huether and Mrs. Wilson
were Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Black.
This was the circus’s 50th Anniver
sary celebration.
Janice Jacklin was lucky enough
to get a ride on an elephant. When
asked their comments about this
trip Mrs. Huether said, “It was the
best trip I have taken my class on
yet.”
Mrs. Wilson said, “Very excit
ing.’’ The best thing liked by these
lucky people was the high wire
acts.

YOUNG AUTHOR’S DAY
The students of Brussels Public
School have become authors for the
last couple of months.
You name the topic and it is
probably covered in a book by some
young Brussels author. On May 5,
Brussels Public will be holding
their Author’s Day. During this
day the students will be reading
their books to a group of other
students. Ifyou would like to join in
this day you are welcome and you
may become a helper.
On May 11 some of our students
will go to East Wawanosh to share
their books with other students in
the north end of the county.
George Swede, the author of
“The Case of Seaside Burglaries,”
“Tick Bird”, ‘‘Dudley and the
Birdman”, and “Dudley and the
Christmas Thief” will be visiting
Brussels Public School on May 12
in the morning. Any parents who
wish to come and listen are most
welcome.
All schools in the county on May
was the same good end-to-end
hockey by both teams. Then with
9:10 on the clock Tim Fritz scored
from Kevin McArter and Kevin
Lee to give Brussels a 1-0 lead.
That lead was short-lived as
Lucan scored three minutes later to
29 will send young authors to the
County Authors’ Day at the
Education Centre in Clinton. Only
afewstudents from each school
will go to Clinton. While there,
they will talk with an author and an
illustrator. These days should be
an enjoyable and educational
experience for the students.

IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM
On Monday, April 6, Brussels
Public School students took part in
an identification program sponsor
ed by the Brussels Legion.
The process included the video
taping of students. The students
stood in front of a scale to show
height. Then they recited their
grade, age, name, teacher and
means of transportation to school.
Thepurposeofthissession is so
that if your child went missing the
tape would provide a permanent
visual record of your child to aid the
police in finding him or her. I feel
the program is a really worthwhile
effort.

Beaver featured
on Brussels pins
Brussels will have the beaver on
its official pins to celebrate home-
coming this year.
Council approved one of three
designs by local artist Jim LeDrew
for use as the village pin. The
design is a simple one of a beaver
surrounded by a circle with the
village’s name. This was chosen
over another design featuring the
mill on the river and a third with a
stylized “B” for Brussels.
The subject of colours that
should be used created consider

tie the score and then went ahead a
minute later as once more they
were able to score two quick goals.
The Irish added another goal at
the 2:27 mark to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bulls came back with 17
seconds remaining in the period as
Tim Fritz scored from Kevin
McArter and Marty Rutledge on a
power play effort to keep the game
in reach.
Lucan scored the only goal in the
second period with 9:43 on the
clock to hold a 4-2 lead. Marty
Rutledge dislocated his shoulder
and didn’t play the remainder of
the game, during this period, after
being taken heavily into the
boards.
SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS
The winners chosen to go on to
Clintonfor the regional Science
Fair were: Ratsamy Larprorn,
grade eight and Lyall Winger.
Ratsamy Larprorn’s project was on
‘‘How Plants react to different
external stimuli”. She had decided
on a biology project concerning
plants because she works well
with plants and her last project
concerned plants also. It takes
patience though. The plants need
time to grow and it takes a lot of
planning and organizing to do a
good project.
Lyall Winger did his on “electro
magnets ’ ’. The hardest part for
him was trying to put his ideas into
words andthen writing it down.
Both winners are somewhat excit
ed about higher judging, although
they are still a bit apprehensive.
We will be proud of them, no
matter what the results are.

We are sorry to have to say
