Plan your yield program with the professionals. BY BRENDA BURKHOLDER The Blyth Tykes travelled to Zurich to participate in the Huron- Perth Tier II Tyke Tournament March 28 and 29. The games were three 10-min- ute periods each. The first game was Saturday at 10 a.m. against Zurich with Scott Bromley in net. Mark “Sparky” Wilson put the first goal on the board for Blyth two minutes into the first period. In the second period there were numerous shots on both nets, but none that counted. Two and a half minutes into the third period Jeff Cowan scored an unassisted goal. Blyth had two unanswered goals to their credit at the end of the game. The Tykes played against Huron Parkat2p.m. with Greg Blok in net. Huron Park scored their first goal only a minute into the game. Three and a half minutes remain ing in the first period Ronnie Abel-Rinn scored Blyth’s first goal, followed less than a minute later by a break-away by Jeff Cowan who shot and scored their second goal of the game. Second period Jeff Ferguson passed the puck to Michael Haggitt, he shot the puck but it hit the goalie’s stick. Shane Burk holder caught the rebound, shot and scored their third goal. Only 13 seconds left in the second period Huron Park scored their second and last goal of the game. Two minutes into the third period Darryl Bromley scored an unassisted goal. Less than a minute later Michael Haggitt passed the puck to Mark ‘ ‘ Sparky’ ’ Wilson who shot and scored. Four minutes remaining in the game Jeff Cowan stick-handled the puck up the ice from centre and scored their last goal of the game. The final score was 6-2 for Blyth. Blyth was now in competition for the “A” Championship and would be playing against a strong Hensall team who had been undefeated all season. Blyth sure gave it their best shot Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Corey Shannon done an excellent job as goaltender for the. game. Scott Bromley, assisted by Jeff Johnston scored the first goal with only 37 seconds remaining in the first period. Second period Jeff Cowan shot from right wing the puck went into the net. A minute later Hensall’s No. 10 scored their first goal. The score board now read 1-1. Where was Blyth’s second goal? Fans were yelling at the referee’s who chose to ignore all these screaming parents. A minute remaining in the second period Hensall’s No. 10 scored again. Two minutes into the third period Hensall’s No. 10 scores his third goal of the game. Eight seconds later Jeff Cowan got a break-away and scored Blyth’s third goal. The lights went out moments later due to a blown fuse. In the midst of all the confusion one referee said, “Blyth’s second goal didn’t count because the buzzer went for the line change as the puck went into the net. The other referee said, “The puck went into the net and then the buzzer went and that it should be counted.” Needless to say that second goal was never counted and so the score was now 3-2 for Hensail. As the lights came back on and playing resumed, the last four minutes of the game were filled with action. Hensall’s No. 15 scored their fourth goal and with only 53 seconds remaining in the game Jeff Cowan scored on one of his famous break-aways and the score was now 4-3. Blyth pulled their goalie to put another player on the ice, but Hensall’s strong No. 10 scored his fourth goal of the game in the last 24 seconds of play. The final scored was 5-3 for Hensail. Hensall won the game but the Tykes put up a good defence and played one of their best games all season. Hensall hadn’t counted on having to work so hard. Well, hockey season is over for | another year and as I reflect back over the season I can’t help but smile at a few incidents that come to mind. Like the one exhibition game the Tykes were in at Lucknow and one mother was so excited yelling at the players that she fell offthebench, or the little fellow who dropped his gum on the ice in the middle of a game, stopped, The Clinton Pubic Hospital will be holding its Annual Corporation Meeting on Monday, June 8, 1987 at 8:00 p.m. (2000 hours) at the St. Paul's Parish Hall, Rattenbury Street, Clinton, Ontario.
