Brigid Pyke in Huron April 1-2 Brigid Pyke, the first woman president of the Ontario Federa­ tion of Agriculture (OFA) will be in Huron County next week to speak to three separate federation meet­ ings in various parts of the county. The Wolfe Island dairy farmer has been much in demand as a speaker since narrowly defeating incumbent OFA president Harry Pelissero at the organization’s annual meeting in Toronto last November. She is coming to Huron BRIGID PYKE at the invitation of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture. Ms. Pyke will speak at the annual meeting of the Stephen Township Federation of Agricul­ ture at 1 p.m, Wednesday, April 1, at the Dashwood Community Centre. Later the same day she will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Huron West-Cen­ tral Regional Federation (compris­ ed of the Goderich, Tuckersmith and Stanley Township Federa­ tions) at the Seaforth Arena. Dinner, by reservation only, will be at 7 p.m., while Ms. Pyke will speak at approximately 8 p.m. On Thursday, April 2, Ms. Pyke will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the East Wawa- nosh Township Federation at the Women’s Institute Hall in Bel­ grave. A dinner will be held at 12 noon (again, by reservation only), while the OFA president will speak at approximately 1 p.m. Carol Finch, HFA secretary, said that as far as she knew, the public is welcome to attend any of these meetings, although dinner reservations would have to be made in advance for both the Belgrave and Seaforth meetings. Tickets for the dinner portion of the Seaforth meeting are still available at $10 each at the HFA office in Vanastra, or by calling 482-9642. As well, CKNX radio farm editor Murray Gaunt will interview Ms. Pyke on April 2, prior to her appearance in Belgrave. Mr. Gaunt said part of the interview will be carried on the nocn farm Williamson re-elected Federation president Keith Williamson of RR 3, Walton, was re-elected president of the Grey T ownship Federation of Agriculture by acclamation on Saturday, after Hugh Crawford of RR 1, Monkton declined the nomination. Mr. Crawford was later re-elect­ ed vice-president of the organiza­ tion, after Fred Uhler of RR 3, Brussels declined the nomination; and Sharon Boylan of RR 2, Listowel, was returned by acclam­ ation as secretary-treasurer. New appointee Gerry Rijkhoff of RR3, Walton, was acclaimed as township director, after Mr. Uhler, Murray Bray and Les Knight all declined the nomination. By tradi­ tion, Mr. Williamson and Mr. Crawford also serve as township directors, while Murray Crawford of RR 3, Brussels, remains as township director-at-large. About 25 members of the township federation attended the annual meeting held at the Fore­ sters’ Community Hail in Cran- brook. Huron-Bruce MP Murray Cardiff was the keynote speaker, while first vice-president Brenda Macintosh and field man Blaine Stephenson were present as repre­ sentatives of the Huron Federation of Agriculture.
