Bly th storms the Lucknow net in the dying minutes of the championship game at the Bly th Industrial Hockey Tournament Sunday night in a vain attempt to tie the game. Lucknow won the championship 6-4. Hodges Milling took the consolation title 9-3 over Teeswater. Sports Novices win consolation Blyth Tykes take trophy BY BRENDA BURKHOLDER The Blyth Tykes travelled to Clinton to participate in the weekend-long Tyke Tournament March 13, 14 and 15 and brought home the “B” championship trophy on Sunday. Their first game was against Clinton at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Darryl Bromley was in net. Mark “Spar­ ky” Wilson put the first goal on the board for Blyth. Clinton scored the next two goals. Jeffery Ferguson scored the second goal of the game. Only minutesinto the second period Clinton scored their final goal. Mark ‘‘Sparky” Wilson scored his second goal of the game bringing the score to a tie of 3-3. Before the second period ended Clinton broke the tie, scoring two, more goals. Third period Jeff Cowan scored Blyth’s fourth goal assisted by Jason Badley. The last three minutes of play Clinton scored two Blyth Tykes recently captured the consolation title at a tournament in Clinton. Optimist tournament The Brussels Optimist Atom Tournament completed the ‘C’ Division this past weekend with 19 games being played. In the championship final, Ilderton de­ feated Harriston 4-0. In the consolation side, Palmerston de­ feated Hillsburgh 1-0. Games this week Tues.,6:45p.m., Belmore Mid­ gets at Brussels. Wed., 6:45 p.m., Harriston Ban­ tams at Brussels, Wed., 8:45 p.m., Lucan Juniors at Brussels. Sat., 8:15 p.m., Brussels Bulls at Lucan. Winners of the draw Friday evening were Jeff Cowan - a Dixie Lee voucher, Scott Bromley - a hockey stick and Greg Block - a hockey bag. All the players received a refreshment from the booth. Blyth was now in competition for the “B” trophy. The Tykes played against Huron Park at 2 p.m. Saturday. Shane Burkholder was goaltender for the game. Blyth won 12-2, with Huron Park scoring their only two goals in the first period. Goals and assists were by: Jeff Cowan, 4 goals, 1 assist; Scott Bromley, a goal and assist; Mark “Sparky” Wilson, a goal and assist; Greg Blok, 4 goals, 1 assist; Corey Shannon, agoal; Michael Courtney, a goal, 2 assists; Michael Haggitt, 4 assists; Aman­ da Anderson, 3 assists; Ronnie Abel-Rinn, 2 assists; also assists by Jeff Ferguson, Jeff Johnston and Darryl Bromley. Blyth’s third game was against Goderich at 4:30 p.m. Corey Shannon was goal tender for the game. Blyth won with 15 unan­ swered goals to their credit. They are asfollows: Jeff Cowan, 5 goals, 2 assists; Jeff Ferguson, a goal, 2 assists; Michael Haggitt, 2 goals, 3 assists; GregBlok, 2 goals; Jeff Johnston, a goal, 2 assists; Mark “Sparky” Wilson, a goal; Michael Courtney, a goal; Jason Badley, a goal and assist; Ronnie Abel-Rinn, a goal; Shane Burkholder, 2 assists; Darryl Bromley, 2 assists and Scott Bromley an assist. The Tykes last game was against Zurich Sunday at 4:30p.m. with Shane Burkholder in net. Winners of this game would be the “B” champions. Jeff Cowan scored the first goal assisted by Scott Brom- Continued on Page 22 BY RUSTLY BLADES The Blyth Novices were elimin­ ated from their group playoffs last Tuesday in Seaforth as Seaforth secured a 4-2 victory on their way to a sweep of the championship match up. For the third straight game, the two teams skated through a scoreless first period before the goal light got a work out in the second frame. After Seaforth opened the scor­ ing, Blyth came back to tie it up as the Scoring Machine found the net. It was a pretty three way passing play from Benjie Hakkers to Ryan Chamney to Henry Bos with Henry finishing off the play. Seaforth scored two late period goals to take a 3-1 lead as the teams headed into the third. Once again, Blyth put a valiant fight to the finish, although they came up just a fraction short. It was a text book play as centreman Brian McNichol won the face off deep in the Seaforth zone. The puck went back to Peter Craig at the blueline whowristedashoton the net. Ryan Chamney intercepted the puck, pivoted, and slid the puck under the goaltender. The team gave it their all but they didn’tquite have the horses to pull it off as they lost another heartbreaker to perhaps the finest novice team in this area. Seaforth received their championship tro­ phy and Blyth received crests as Novice South Group finalists for 1986-87.
