The theme for the service was ‘ ‘ Faith and Hope of the Homeless”. Mrs. Fred Armstrong opened with prayer and then spoke on the refugees throughout the World. CanadaandU.S.A.havehelped but there are still 10 million refugees in the World. Mrs. Gary Shuttleworth, Mrs. Donald Young, Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Arm­ strong then presented a skit on the lives of several refugees. Two Bible passages of people in need were discussed. Mrs. Shut­ tleworth gave a talk on homes that care for refugees in Canada. They act on a motto “I was a stranger and you took me in.” A scripture passage from Matthew 25 was read by Mrs. Young and Mrs. Shuttle­ worth. Collection was received by Shelley Dobie and Mrs. Armstrong led in prayer. “Guide Me O Thou Great Knox Church The minister Gary Shuttleworth conducted the morning service at Knox United Church. Organ Prelude was by the choir director Lori Millian, the senior choir sang, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye”. The children’s hymn, “Tell me thestoriesof Jesus” wassung. The minister told the children’s story and the children went to junior congregation with teachers Tam­ my Shuttleworth and Mrs. Dana Bean and the Cunninghams. The Minister’s sermon was entitled “The Holding Cross.” Prayers of Commitment and Concern and Offertory prayer were given by Mrs. Shuttleworth. Offer- Donald Young as pianist. The Worship closed with a Helen Steiner Rici poem, “God grant us Hope.” The president Mrs. Marinus Bakker conducted the business. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given. Roll call was answered with donations to the Friendship House in Goderich. Articles were received for the layette and Mrs. Laurence Plaetzer stated that all articles should be given to heror Mrs. Wayne Millian by April 15. The Stewardship service will be on March 25 and offering is for the M & S Fund. April 29 is the Huron Perth Presbytery meeting at Kirk- ton-Woodham Community Cen­ tre. The date for the U.C.W. Garage Sale is May 16. A discussion (re) it followed. Mrs. Ross Dobie moved the business closed. A social half hour was enjoyed and a delicious lunch served. news mg was received by Peter Verbeek and Brian Ramsey. The minister pronounced the Benediction and the service closed with the Congre­ gational Benediction, “Lord We Pray.” 6 tables at euchre party There were six tables in play at the euchre party held March 17 at the Community Hall. Winners were: high lady, Carol Daer; low lady, Kay Lapp; high man, Jasen Moxam; low man, Elliott Lapp; novelty, Dorothy Grange. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday night at the Community Hall at 8 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Community Hall on Tuesday, March 17. The tables were decorated for St. Patrick’s Day. There were sixteen present. The president Mrs. Len Pancake supper April 1 Mrs. Ivan Henderson and Mrs. Lillian Bonter of Weston spent the weekend with Mrs. Violet Durnin of RR 3, Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Toll visited on Saturday with his sister Marjorie McDougall. The Sunday School Pancake supperwillbeheldon Wednesday, April 1. Tickets will be sold from 5:00. 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. sittings. General U.C.W. meeting will be on Wednesday, March 25 at 8 p.m. at the church. The guest speaker will be Mrs. Joyce MacPherson on her theme “Stewardship and Friendship”. Come and bring a friend. Glad to report that Mrs. Tom Hallam returned home Monday from University Hospital, London following surgery. She is wished a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Foran of Blyth calledon Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs. Greg Park visited last week with William Anderson of Newmarket. While there Mrs. Park and Oliver went to a hockey game at Maple Leaf Gardens. The 3M’s will meet for an evening of bowling on April 4 at 8 p.m. at Little Bowl in Goderich and then return to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Lapp. Mr. and Mrs. Paul J ar din and family of Kitchener visited recent­ ly with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jardin. Thanks to the Auburn people for their donation of $555 for the Heart and Stroke Fund. The meeting opened with Institute Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. The topic was Tweedsmuir History of Auburn. Minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. Robert Peck and approved as read. Shealsogave the financial statement and read the correspondence. The next meeting will be the annualbanquettobeheldatthe Candelight in Goderich, April 23 at 12 noon. The district president Mrs. Elliott will be there to speak and convenors of meetings are asked to have their reports ready to be read that day and handed in. She also had a contest on the states ending in an “A”. Mrs. Jardin read and showed pictures of the seventeen Prime Ministers of Canada and gave the history of them all. The president Mrs. Archam­ bault thanked all who took part in the program. Hostesses Mrs. Tom Lawlor and Mrs. Don Cartwright served lunch.
