Crusaders trail series
Junior Farmers - better than ever
CRUSADERS TRAILING 3-1
The Crusaders travelled to
Wellesley for their third game in
their best of seven series. Perhaps
Friday the 13th caught up with the
team.
Wellesley scored five goals in
the first give minutes of the game
on goalie Keith McClure who was
then replaced by Mike Smith.
Mike’s luck wasn’t any better and
the home team scored four more
goals on him before the period
ended.
Keith McClure declared re
venge and returned to the nets for
the second and third periods of
play. He did his job well, keeping
Wellesley off the scoreboard but
his linemates failed to beat the
opposing goalie leaving the period
scoreless.
The team came back in the third
period with Jim Campbell scoring
from Dave Montgomery and Dave
Murray.
Brian Hastie added the second
goal from Dave Golley and Ken
Higgins. Jim Campbell came
through with his second goal of the

Nutrition matters
Hearty lunches
BY CATHY THOMSON

People have been carrying
lunchestowork or school for years.
But today the practice of brown-
bagging it has taken on new
dignity. Lunch from home has
some distinct advantages -- no
surprises, and no excess sodium or
unwanted calories - as long as the
packer keeps good nutrition in
mind.
The noon meal for children
should definitely be nourishing - to
fuelrapidly growing bodies and
keep their minds alert. A hungry
child is not able to concentrate on
school work and often becomes
restless and overactive.
A good lunch should contain a
selection from each of the basic
food groups. To prevent boredom,
include some different items: not
just bread, but pita pockets, rolls,
crackers, or muffins (whole grain
ones preferably); not just apples,
but fruit juices, small cans of fruit
or grapefruit sections; not just
milk, but yogurt, pudding, or
cheese cubes; not just peanut
butter or luncheon meat, but hard
boiled eggs, baked beans, spa
ghetti or macaroni and cheese.
Try to get your child involved in
planning and making his lunch.
That’s the best way to ensure
they’ll eat it.
Watch the sweet treats in lunch
bags. Remember, most children
don ’ t brush their teech after lunch.
Try to include treats that are less
harmful to teeth - muffins, quick
breads, pudding, yogurt or even
finger jello (recipe below).
Lunch should be kept as cool as
possible. Sandwiches or juice
boxes can be packed, frozen
(they’ll thaw by lunch time). Or a
small freezer pack can be included.
Thermoses are also useful lunch
box additions for both hot and cold
food.
period from D. Montgomery and
Kevin Hastie for the third goal.
Kevin Dietner scored the fourth
goal unassisted to complete the
Crusaders response. After a disas
trous first period, Wellesley was
allowed to add only one more goal
and the game ended 10-4 in their
favor.
CRUSADERS SHUT OUT
Game number four was played at
home on Sunday night. It proved to
be a better game of hockey with the
first period being scoreless.
At the end of the second period,
Wellesley had scored three unan
swered goals to take the lead once
more.
The visitors scored only one goal
in the third period but the
Crusaders were unable to break
thebarrier setupby the visiting
goalie who claimed a 4-0 shut-out.
The Crusaders were to return to
Wellesley for the fifth game on
Tuesday night. Hopefully they
took their shamrocks with them
and came up with a victory or else
they will be hanging up their
skates.
