National class figure skaters with a home-town flavour, Kerrie Shepherd of RR1, Bly th and Peter MacDonald of RR 3, Brussels put in a guest appearance at the Blyth Figure Skating Club Carnival in Blyth on Friday, thrilling fans who have followed the pair through Canada-wide Novice Dance competition over the past two years. The couple competed at the National Finals in Ottawa last month, and will skate at the Ontario Winter Games in London later this month. The leaders decided on breaking the club up into groups telling members what they were suppoed to know and then the members would fill in the meeting in the books, as required. The members learned how to Compiled by Mrs. Mac Engel. Phone 887-6645 Cranbrook sees video tape on 'Aids' The Cranbrook Women’s Insti­ tute met on March 5 at the home of Mrs. Frank Workman. Nine members answered the roll call “What did you learn about Aids from the pamphlets you received?’’ A video tape was shown on “Aids”. Mrs. Jim Hart reported on the District Executive meeting attended by her and Mrs. Clare Veitch. The Area Convention is to be at the Community Centre, Atwood, on Oct. 29-30. The annual meeting in April will be held at the home of Mrs. Hart. Cranbrook 'Survivors' meet The second regular meeting of the “Survivors of Cranbrook” was held Thursday, Feb. 26atthe home of Mrs. Jim Hart. The meeting was opened by the president by leading with the pledge. The minutes were read by Leanife Minielly and approved. Roll was called with all members present. In business the name of the club was discussed, and in a close vote it was decided that the group should be called “Survivors of Cran­ brook’’. The possibility of a barbecue was discussed but had little support. The leaders read through the lessons one and three. These lessons dealt with being indepen­ dent and also with decision making and how goals and values must be keptin mind when making deci­ sions. The meeting closed with the motto. 'World Day of Prayer' observed Mrs. Joe Smith was hostess for the World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 6. The president, Mrs. Clare Veitch was leader and was assisted People around Cranbrook Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stevenson and family, Whitby, and Mrs. Anna Lee Smith and family, Milton, were recent visitors with their parents, Stuart and Mrs. Stevenson. Knight assisted the hostess with lunch. _______ The Foresters card party on March 6 was well attended with 18 tables playing. The Hall Board will sponsor the euchre on Friday, March 13. Knox young people plan activities On March 2, the Cranbrook Knox Presbyterian Young People had a meeting at the home of Patsy Dickison. The meeting opened with a prayer by the president, Dwayne Evans. The members discussed the dance on April 25 at the Cranbrook Hall. They also discuss­ ed the Easter Breakfast on April 19. The C.K.P.Y. is going into a Volleyball Tournament on March 20at Mitchell. The meeting was closed witha prayer by the Rev. Steven Webb. Lunch was served. Members of the Ethel 3,4H club may not be handymen and women but are trying very hard to “Survive in Style”. They have had four interesting meetings in which they were taught cooking, cleaning, making decisions and learning how to protect themselves. Making a Brussels approves BacPac by-law In a special meeting Tuesday, March 3, Brussels village council voted to enter into an agreement to implement the BacPac accounting system. A vote on the by-laws required to implement the system was held up atthe regular March 2 meeting when it became evident there was a split in council over support for entering the agreement with the Ministry. After checking proce­ dures, council met on Tuesday night and the motions approving the three readings of the necessary by-law were passed. The system will mean closer reporting of spending of all departments to the councillors when fully in place before the end of 1987.
