Getting to know each other when Bly th Cubs visited the managerie of Harm and Irene Thaien of Blyth last week were Darryl Shannon and Rambo the Honey Bear. Darryl was one of three Cubs who won prizes for giving names to £he Honey Bears at Thalen’s. Honey Bears are a member of the monkey family. March of Dimes gets big response The Ontario March of Dimes 1987 Ability campaign is officially over. Mrs. Mary Ann Howson, Cam­ paign Chairperson, is delighted to report that a total of $1,575.83 was collected in the Blyth area. The donations received from the community will help enrich the lives of physically disabled adults and children in many ways. The March of Dimes helps disabled people discover their potential - and their abilities. The donations allow the March of Dimes to continue to help thousands of physically disabled people across the province. FEBRUARY 24 Cubs win prizes for names Recently the Blyth Wolf Cub Pack, with the kind help of Harm and Irene Thelan, held a contest to name three Honey Bears. The winners were Darryl Shann­ on with Rambo, Aaron Sauve with Lazy and Shayne Sholdice with Boo-Boo. The boys of the Blyth Pack have made a anumber of trips to the Thalens, learning about and enjoying, their many breeds of birds and small animals. Also at a recent meeting the Cubs were entertained and inform­ ed by Mrs. Shillinglaw and her dog Misty who gave a demonstration on obedience. Congratulations to Kevin and Kent Shillinglaw who received their Religion in Life badgeonFeb. 15 at Londesboro United Church. Coming Events include the annual Kub Kar Rally, being held Feb. 28 in Exeter this year and Scout Guide Week from February 22 to 28. To keep used soap pads from rusting, store in a tightly closed margarine tub. It also helps to line tub with tin foil. NOTICE - WATER RATES Blyth Water Commission approved a monthly increase of $1.00. New Monthly Rate - $7.00. Sunshine Unit holds meeting NOTICE DOG LICENSE FEES DUE FEBRUARY 28,1987 The Sunshine unit of the Blyth United Church Women met in the lounge for the February meeting on Feb. 12. Twenty members answered the roll call with a verse from the Psalms. Marjorie East gave the call to worship and announced hymn 330. Ruby Philp was at the piano. Betty Nethery read two selections from scripture: Psalm 47, 1-8 and People John and Reta Blake have returned from an enjoyable 16 day vacation in Florida. They visited John’s brother Charles and Thel­ ma Blake in their trailer court in Key Largo and John’s sister Ellen Davidson in her home in St. Petersburg. Ten tables were in play February 16 at the Monday night euchre party at Blyth Hall. High point winners for the night were Blanche Hoegy and Albert Quipp. Low scorers were Ella Richmond and Mel Jacklin. Nora Kelly and Cliff Hoegy had the most lone hands while Ernest Brown won the special prize. There’s a euchre party every Monday night. Dorothy Daer and Alvin Snell had the high scores at the Lost Heir card party at the Hall on Wednes­ day night. There were seven tables in play. Mary Holland and Ruth Sheill (playing as a man) had the low scores. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Timpany, Dean and Deneen of Aylmer visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell of Blyth and other members of the family. We are glad to report that Terry Pierce is home from University Hospital in London. He suffered a severe industrial accident at his work in London. Terry is now receiving therapy treatment. Hebrews 2, 6-9 after which Mrs. East read a prayer. She also read a story, “The Common Heart’’, in keeping with both St. Valentine’s Day and the Heart Fund. A second hymn was sung. Betty Nethery took up the collection which was dedicated by Marjorie. Mel da McElroy gave a talk on the tribal peoples of the Philip­ pines. During her presentation, interjected interesting information» on the tribal Philippinos was offered by Mary Walden, Cather­ ine Caldwell and Evalena Web­ ster. The minutes of the January meeting were read by Feme McDowell, and Myrtle Vodden gave a brief treasurer’s report. Lenora Davidson, card convenor, reported on dispatches and ac­ knowledgements. Mary Wightman, co-leader, thanked those who had contributed totheworship and study. She dealt with business relating to the Christian Education banquet on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. On behalf of the Sunday school, Mrs. Wightman issued a warm invitation to all members of U.C. W. to participate in the skating party on Feb. 28, 4-5 p.m. and to partake of refresh­ ments at the church afterwards. Among the prizes for skaters in costume will be one for the oldest skater. Grace was sung at the close of the meeting, after which refresh- ents which smacked of St. Valen­ tine’s Day, were served by Feme McDowell, Evelyn Smith and Myrtle Vodden.
