SHUTTLEWORTH AUBURN UNITED CHURCH In John 4: 24 Jesus said: “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.’’ We are, therefore, made to realize that we were created in the image of God -- not necessarily bodily image because God is Spirit. God is separate to His creation. He existed before and does exist apart from His creation. Then, in what ways were we created in the likeness of God? In the Old Testament Hebrew there are three names which Missionary Women meet The monthly missionary meet ing of the Huron Chapel Mission ary Women International was convened at the home of Debra Rodges on February 3. President Marilyn Campbell opened the meeting with prayer and Madeline Burchill led in the singing of several songs. Dianne Baan and her daughter Kim gavean account of their recent visit to Mexico in the course of visiting missionary friends, Nor man and Hilda Sparling. Kim was amazed to discover that crosses placed beside the road at various spots marked the graves of people who had been killed because of hazardous driving on poor and winding roads. When the Baans observed that the streams from which drinking water was taken were used also for bathing, the washing of clothes and the watering of cattle, they knew why they had been warned represent the Trinity -- Elohim, Adonai. and El Shaddai. These names occur many times in Old Testament Scripture, not in the singular, not in the dual, in the plural; for our God is one God, yet Three in One -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This truth is also found in nature. No one can fully understand electricity, yet it is a trinity in that it produces light, heat, and power. One ray of white light is made up of three different rays -- red, blue, and green. Mankind is also a trinity, compos ed of body, mind, and spirit. about drinking the local water. Upon arriving home they discover ed that they couldn’t get enough water to drink. The bartering system made shopping an interest- ing and sometimes frustrating experience. Missionary prayer concerns were voiced in prayer by Aimee Barth, Dianne Baan, Heather McCowan and Marilyn Campbell. The Bible study, “On Your Thought Life, ’ ’ was led by Marilyn Campbell. Gladys Campbell, special events convenor, surprised Marie Scott by announcing a baby shower for her new son, Jordan. The gifts were presented by Kim Baan and Viginia Rodges. It was announced that, because of the proximity to the missionary convention to be held Feb. 19-22, when missionaries from Brazil, Ecuador and Sierra Leone will be present, the March meeting will be cancelled. Humanity, created in the like ness of the Trinity, isatrinity itself. We, therefore, must realize that mankind was originally created perfect. However, original man kindfell away inbody.mindand spirit. Therefore, to believe that we are able to reach a higher level and bring about a millennium of world harmony, without the recreating work of Christ Jesus, is a fallacy. Humanity has fallen away from God’s design. We need a personal Saviour. This is why God sent our Lord into the world so that “whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life’’ (John 3: 16). Ifwe are to witness for Christ, we need to have a heart-felt faith. Head knowledge should never take the place of heart knowledge. The faith oftheLord Jesus should reach the heart of people. When God gave to Moses the specifications and plans concerning the taber nacle in the wilderness, He began with the ark of the convenant, right in the holy of holies, where His presence would dwell. He began on the inside and worked out. God always begins work within the heart of people. When Jesse’s sons passed in frontof Samuel, the prophet, to anoint a future king for the Isreal nation, the prophet thought that the oldest son, Eliab, who was of fine statu re and splendid physi que, would be chosen by the Lord. But the Lord said: “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart’’ (1 Samuel 16:7). A change of heart is necessary. The mind of person -- his/her intellect - does not concern God so much. We read that the wisdom possessed by anyone is foolishness in the sight of God. We may have intellect and a great amount of learning, and still be without a heart-felt faith. We need to get the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ down into our hearts. Many farms still have haylofts. But the hay does very little good until it is thrown down to the stock below. If we believe in the virgin birth, His death on Calvary’s Cross, and His resurrection from the dead, we need to get our beliefs out of the “hayloft” and down into ourhearts. We read: “...if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved” (Romans 10: 9-10). Lifeless, formal religion kills the heart of anyone who comes under Blyth Christian Reformed Church HIGHWAY 4, BLYTH Rev. ALL VISITORS WELCOME its influence and gives a passive ness to the one who proclaims it. There is nothing more wrong than a religion of faith that has a form of godliness but denies the power of the resurrected Christ. We are instructed to turn away from teachers who give sugar-coated pills of modern theology for their hearers to swallow. May God deliver every minister from cold, dead, formal religion of the head, and may we know Christ and the power of His name in our hearts and lives. In the beginning God designed that mankind would be created perfect. He also designed that His Son should die on Calvary’s Cross for everyone. Today, God’s design is that you accept the only begotten Son of God as your Lord and Saviour. Then you, too, may be a witness in His name, proclaiming the Gospel to everyone. For God has designed that truth and grace be found in Christ Jesus and that we become His witnesses through the power of the Holy Spirit. | Business Directory Rammeloo Rest Home • Room available •24hourcare [nurse on staff] • Home cooked meals •$22.00 per day WHERECANYOU DO BETTER?
