PAGE ? Blyth rally attracts 300 A mainstay of the Blyth main street for many years, John (Jack) Stewart died in Wingham and District Hospital on Friday, Feb. 6, 1987. He was 72 years of age. Jack and his wife Ruth operated Stewart’s Red and White Grocery on main street for many years. He was an active part of the commun­ ity- Besides his wife he leaves three sons, John, Donald and Kenneth of Blyth and two daughters, Nancy, Mrs. John Rowe, of Atwood and People Card players have had a hayday in Blyth in the last while with card games up to three days a week. On January 31 the Diamond Jubilee Committee of the Royal Canadian Legion and Ladies Aux­ iliary held a euchre party. Ladies high was Nora Kelly and ladies low Millie Johnston. The most lone hands for the ladies was recorded by Ila Pollock. Bert Daer had the high score for the men while Charles Johnston had the low score. Mary Holland, playing as a man showed the men how to do it when she had the most lone hands. Charles Johnston won the door prize. Bill Little wonavalentine heart. There will be another euchre party this Saturday night at 8 p.m. in time for valentine sweethearts. On Monday night there were 10 tables of players at the regular Monday euchre party at Memorial Hall. High score winners were Alice Buchanan for the ladies and Albert Quipp for the men, Mildred McNall and Bert Daer had the low scores. Esther Moffat and Cliff Hoegy had the most lone hands and Ida Proctor won the special prize. On Wednesday it was the turn of the Lost Heir players at Memorial Hall. Five tables were in play. Mary Holland had the high score for the ladies and Alvin Snell was tops of the men. Nora Kelly and Charlie Smith had the low scores. Repairs are completed to the ice plant at the Blyth and District Community Centre. People like to keep track of the happenings of other people in their community and sometimes even more about people who used to live here and have moved on. Further details next week.) Garage sale committee already planning The garage sale committee of the Blyth United Church met on February 3 in the church base­ ment. The co-chairwomen for this year are Bonnie Shannon and Candice Howson. The 12th annual garage sale is Friday, May 8, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., a change of day and time. Area residents are asked to start saving any good, used articles for this year’s sale. The group is once again asking for rags. Anyone having cloth articles suitable for rags is asked to leave them at Snell’s Grocery or at the Blyth United Church before March 31, 1987. Phone: 523-4870 Under the supervision of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary the child­ ren canvassed the village of Blyth January 31 and Auburn February 7 selling chocolate bars. Sales were great, thanks to the involvement of the youth. Lunch was served to them after their morning work at the Legion. New donations to date are: Lenore and Don Scrimgeour, $50; Jean and Bill Little, $25; Jack and Helen Lee, $100; Blyth Broomball League, $1,000. The 1987 Blyth Poker Rally was held last Saturday, with close to 300 snowmobiles taking part. Seven hundred and fifty-nine poker hands were sold, with Jeff Sippel taking first place with four aces, Robert Popp placing second with four fives, and Ron Howson coming in third with a full house. All three winners are from Blyth. The annual event was sponsored jointly by the Blyth Lions Club and the Blyth Snowtravellers. On February 14, an afternoon trail ride will leave from the Blyth and District Community Centre at 1 p.m. Riders will circle around by Clinton, then return to the Blyth clubhouse where pop and hotdogs will be served. A spokesman for the Snowtra­ vellers said that everyone is 35t&. NOTICE Village of Blyth PARKING During snow removal operations, the parking of vehicles on Village Streets is strictly prohibited. All vehicles must be removed from Village Streets, from roadways of the municipality, between the hours of 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Violators will be prosecuted or will be required to bear the cost of having their vehicle towed away.
