PAGE 25. = $7 What to do if time is short Experts say that planning a formal wedding takes a minimum of six months. But what do you do if the weddingdateisonly a month or so away, and everything must be done in the shortest possible time? It can be done, but the immedi acy of the deadline calls for faster footwork, less shopping around, more decisiveness to settle for whatisavailableinthewayofa reception hall, wedding dress, and thclikc. “Musts”, besides the date and the place, include a guest list, invitations, something to wear, something to eat and drink. Other chores vary, depending on plans, but will likely include planning a wedding trip, selecting a home and furnishings, or the logistics of combining two house holds into one. By making some compromises, delegating jobs, and working fast, you will be amazed at how quickly all this can be accomplished. Here are some tips to help you get it all done without having a nervous breakdown: Dyed shoes perfect for co-ordinated look Shoe dyeing has become popular for weddings recently, since shoes which perfectly match a brides maid’s dress are virtually imposs ible to find on any market. Ihe art of shoe dyeing is practised in many larger centres, but brides in North Huron are fortunate to have a place in Walkerton which will do an excellent job at a very reasonable price. Caye Kittel of Kittel’s Shoe Box in Walkerton says the cost of having a pair of shoes dyed to match a fabric runs around $15, adding that shoes can be re-dyed later up to three times, to return them to normal street wear. “Shoes are very much part of the total fashion look, and dyed shoes are the best bet for a co-ordinated look,” she says. Dyeable shoes are made of satin or Irish linen, and come in three different heel heights, Mrs. Kittel says. They can also be dyed to match any one of 700 different shades, so a perfect match is possible with almost any dress colour. The shoe must first be stripped with a special solution to ensure that it is perfectly clean, and then dried thoroughly. It is then painted with dye, using a brush and sponge, with great care being taken to ensure that the colour goes on evenly. Two or three coats of dye may be required, depending upon how deep the desired shade is. Mrs. Kittel already has bookings to get shoes dyed for weddings this summer, but she can do shoes she gets in as late as three or four days before the wedding. 1. Many bridal salons have a choice of ready-to-wear wedding gowns. This means delivery can be almost immediate, except for any alterationstothegown you choose. 2. Many restaurants have pri vate rooms, and are generally able to provide an attractive setting for a wedding party, provided you reserve far enough ahead, or can be somewhat flexible with dates. 3. Instead of having invitations printed, you can buy fine paper and write them yourself, or have someone good at calligraphy write the invitation, and have it photo copied on a good machine. 4. Instead of having the cere mony at a church and the reception at a public place, choose to be married at home. Rent or borrow chairs, china, glassware, etc. (some churches, halls, etc. will rent or loan these items in small towns). In this way, you can do all your planning without regard for anyone else’s schedule. If your home is too small, perhaps a friend or family member will loan theirs for the occasion. 5. Cut the guest list to the bone. The fewer the number of people, the less time it will take to plan the event (and the less expensive!) Other ideas for saving time and money include using silk flowers, instead of real ones, for bouquets and decorations; having the men in the wedding party wear suits, rather than renting formal wear; plan the wedding ceremony for the morning and serve a wedding breakfast, which is considerably less expensive and much less time-consuming than a wedding dinner. But most of all -- relax, and enjoy the event! “Where light comes to Life.
