Countdown to a successful wedding Organizing a wedding takes a lot of advance pianningand in order to insure things go as planned, a couple should make a checklist of what all has to be done long before the special day. TWO-SIX MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING - Make announcement of engage ment and engagement party. - Select engagement ring and wedding band (s) from a reliable jeweller. - Decide what type of wedding you want and reserve the church and hall for the ceremony and recep tion. - Compile and co-ordinate your wedding guest lists. Determine how many guests each side will invite. - Visit your clergyman. - Select your honeymoon destina tion and begin making the neces sary arrangements. Choose a travel agent who has a good reputation in his field and knows what he is talking about. - Decide on the number of attendants and invite them. - Start shopping for all your wedding services. - Choose the color scheme for your wedding. - Select the dresses for your attendants. Everyone will give an opinion, but you mustmake the final decision. - Select the men’s formal wear. - Begin to plan your new home. Location of your home, furnishing and household items are your main priorities. - Complete and co-ordinate the wedding guest lists. - Select gifts for all your atten dants. Usual gifts range from jewellery, wallets, ties, charms or small articles of clothing. Pictures make nice gifts as well. - Visit your doctor for a complete medical check-up. - Complete your honeymoon plans. -Mail out your wedding invitations six to eight weeks prior to your wedding. All invitations should be addressed by hand. - Arrange for your rehearsal party. - Arrange for your florist. If special preparations must be made, you want to be sure that you get exactly whatyou want. A last minute order may result in disappointment. - Arrange for your photographer. Book early because usually the best photographers are booked first. - Arrange for your music. Since most weddings today have music, be sure to choose what type of music you want. Most common choices of music are disc jockey or live band. ONE MONTH BEFORE THE WEDDING - Pick up your wedding bands at your jeweller. Make sure that the sizing and engraving is correct. - Choose a special wedding gift for the bride. Often a nice piece of jewellery is well appreciated. - Choose a special wedding gift for the groom. - Make certain that you have all the necessary papers, blood tests, birth certificates in order. - Order your wedding cake. - Contact the telephone and utilities companies to start service to your new home. - Contact your insurance agent to make the necessary adjustments on insurance policies. - Change names on bank accounts or open new accounts and change names on legal documents. - Arrange for a quiet place to stay on the night of your wedding. - Arrange accommodations and transportation for out of town guests. -Checkwithall theservicesyou have engaged. TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING - Get the marriage license. - Make sure that all your clothes for the honeymoon are in good condition and ready to go. - Wrap gifts for attendants. - Discuss with the best man the arrangements for transportation from the reception to where you plan to leave for your honeymoon trip. ONE WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING - Inform your attendants of the time and place of the rehearsal. - Give gifts to your attendants at the rehearsal party. - Provide clergyman’s fee in a sealedwhiteenvelopeandgiveit to the best man. - Give last minute count to the caterer. - Have final consultations with everyone connected with the wed ding. WEDDING DAY - Ushers arrive one hour before the service with full instructions for seating arrangements. - Bridegroom and best man arrive together. - Bridesmaids arrive. - Bride and her father arrive just before the service begins. - The head usher escorts the groom’s parents to the front row at the right. - The head usher escorts the bride’s mother to the front row left. - The wedding begins. Wedding bands are meant to last a lifetime There may be several occasions to buy jewelry in our lives, but we’re all relatively inexperienced when it comes to wedding rings. Jewelry specialists list these key points to keep in mind when shopping for a wedding ring: •Be mindful of the wearer’s occupation. Will she wear the ring all the time? Is it comfortable on a moving hand? Will it keep up its appearance and not collect dirt and oil? (Plain bands develop an attractive patina; patterned ones can mask scratches.) •When buying matching bands, don’t choose a pattern that’s too feminine for the bridegroom or too masculine for the bride. •When matching a wedding band to an engagement ring, keep it simple. Keep the focus on the unique piece. •If there is no engagement ring, get stylish. Patterns and/or dia monds are a good choice when the focus is on the wedding ring only. •Two can be better than one. Two narrow wedding bands on either side of an engagement ring can look beautiful and balanced. A wedding ring is not like costume jewelry. You wear it every day for years. Make sure you trust your jeweller and that you make a selection you can live with for a long time.
