euchre party at hall

Among the many snowmobilers who took part in last Sunday’s Poker
Rally at Walton was Jason Thompson, 5, and his dad, Eldon, of
Walton. The event was a huge success, with Brian Wilbee of Walton
holding the top poker hand to win $150.
The Walton Women’s Institute
sponsored the euchre on Thursday
evening, January 28 in the com
munity hall.
Ten tables were in play with
prizes won by: high lady, Iona
McLean, Brussels; second high,
Alice Stevens, Ethel; lowlady, Ann
Smith, Brussels; high man, Viola
Kirkby (playing as a man); second
high, Mel Jacklin, Brussels; low
man, Sharon Godkin (playing as a
man); special prize, Rachel Riehl,
Seaforth.

Eighty-nine percent of money
raised from the annual door-to-
door campaign goes to research
and education for the Heart and
Stroke Foundation according to
Margaret MacLeod, Publicity
Chairman of the 1987 campaign in
Huron County.
The remaining 11 percent is
divided between campaign costs
and administration.

the next noon lunch was the wrong

The new dusk-to-dawn light at
the outside of the hall has been
installed and the new light in the
downstairs entrance, making it
more convenient for those coming
to the hall.

training school in Clinton last
week.
The annual door-to-door cam
paign is being organized by the
year’s Campaign Chairman, Bar-
nie Goldsmith. The President for
the Huron County Chapter of the
Heart and Stroke Foundation is
Stan Connelly.
Money collected in campaigning
goes to finance research projects as
in the 138 major research projects
the Foundation supported in the
1985/86 campaign.

Poker rally successful
Sunday was mild with sunny
skies for the Walton Area Sports
Club Annual Poker Rally when a
great number of snowmobiles
gathered at the hall from 11 a.m. to
2 p.m. to begin their 23 mile
course over fields and through
bushes on the Poker Rally.
There was a good turn out when
527 hands were sold with 233 door
prizes from donations were drawn
for later.
Brian Wilbee, Walton captured
the first prize of $150 with the
second best hand held by Trevor
Hall, Toronto winning $75. Mari
lyn Willems, Seaforth came in
third to win $50 and Howard
Hackwell, Walton took $25 in
fourth place.
