Farm Prices down on finished cattle Amy Workman of RR 2, Brussels was the winner of the Ross Mitchell Trophy for the High Point Aggregate Score in the Brussels 4-H Horse Club, presented at the annual meeting of the Brussels Agricultural Society, Jan. 21. Newly-elected Society director Ross Mitchell made the presentation. f nA Conrad Bos of RR 3, Blyth won the Jim Hallahan trophy as Junior 4-H Top Dairy Calf Exhibitor at the Brussels Fall Fair last September. Making the presentation, Wednesday night, is Fair Director John Boneschansker. Top 4-H'ers honoured by Brussels Fair Board The top 4-H Calf Club members in North Huron were honoured last Wednesday, as the Brussels Agri­ cultural Society presented its annual awardsduring the society’s year-end banquet and general meeting. Donna Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale won the Dairy Calf Highest Aggregate Score trophy, donated by the Brussels Branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, presented by manager Blair Dickson. Her cousin, David Johnston of the same address, was awarded the Petro-Canada trophy for the top first year Dairy Calf Club member, presented by Joan Ber­ nard on behalf of her husband, agent Howard Bernard; and Rick Johnston of RR 4, Wingham won the Top Notch Feeds Award for the Highest Judging Score in the Dairy Calf Club, presented by fieldman Rick Rock. Agricultural Society director John Boneschansker presented his own award for the Top J unior Dairy Calf Showman to Melanie Knox of RR 1, Londesboro; and also the Jim Hallahan Trophy to Conrad Bos of RR3, Bly th as the Top Junior Dairy Calf exhibitor. David Wheeler of RR 1, Bluevale was awarded both the Cal Krauter Award for the Highest Combined Calf and Showmanship Score, and the Bruce McCall Trophy for the Top Showman in both the Beef and Dairy Clubs. Both trophies were accepted by Heather Wheeler on behalf of her brother. In a separate ceremony, fair board past president Keith Wil­ liamson presented a Special Ser­ vice Award to Harvey Craig of Walton, in recognition of Mr. Craig’s fifty years of service to the Society. Riddell's driver found dead Earl Datars, driver for Jack Riddell, Huron-Middlesex M.P.P. and Ontario Agriculture Minister died suddenly early Saturday. The market at Brussels Stock- yards followed the week’s decline with finished cattle trading one dollar per hundredweight lower on steers and heifers. Due to weather conditions there were not suffi­ cient pigs to establish prices. There were 705 cattle on offer. Choice steers sold from $82 to $86 with sales to $89. Good steers were $78 to $82. A steer consigned by Stam Farms of RR 4, Kincardine weigh­ ing 1340 lbs. sold for $89 with their offering of 12 steers averaging 1277 lbs. selling for $83. Three steers consigned by Bob Mc­ Naughton of RR 3, Kippen averag­ ing 1220 lbs. sold for an overall price of $86.56 with a sale at $87.75. Forty-three steers con­ signed by Mac Willits of RR 1, Wingham averaging 1238 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.24 with a sale to $88.25. Three steers consigned by Tra­ cey Bisback of RR 2, Seaforth averaging 1110 lbs. sold for an overall price of $84.93 with a sale at $85.50. Twelve steers consigned by Lome Forester of RR 1, Lucknow averaging 1202 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.92 with sales to $85.75. Eleven steers consigned by Doug Wagg of RR 5, Mitchell averaging 1230 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.83. Twenty-eight steers consigned by Maple Emblem Farms of RR 1, Dungannon averaging 1233 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.64 with sales to $85.50. Thirty steers consigned by George Adams of RR 2, Wroxeter averaging 1242 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.60. Five steers consigned by Bob Orr of RR 4, Kincardine averaging 1086 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.56. Thirteen steers consigned by Hodgins Bros, of RR 8, Parkhill averaging 1287 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.17 with a sale at $84.50. Thirty-one steers consign­ ed by Earl Fitch of RR 1, Wroxeter averaging 1227 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.05 with sale to $87.25. Ross of RR 3, Embro averaging 1260 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.90 with a sale at $87. Twenty -one steers consigned by Mac Ross ofRR3, Embro averaging 1170 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.73. Choice exotic heifers sold from $82 to $86 with a sale at $88.75. Choice white-faced heifers sold from $78 to $82. A fancy heifer consigned by Earl Fitch of RR 1, Wroxeter weighing 1060 lbs. sold for $88.75 with his offeringof50 heifers averaging 1083 lbs. selling for an overall price of $83.31. Seven heifers consigned by Garry Potter of RR 3, Clinton averaging 1149 lbs. sold for an overall price of $86.15 with sales to $87.75. Three heifers consigned by Ron Brooks of RR 3, Lucknow averaging 1166 lbs. sold for $86.10 with his offering of 12 heifers averaging 1139 lbs. selling for an overall price of $83.82 with a sale to $86.75. Six heifers consigned by Carl Dinsmore of RR 1, Gorrie averaging 1077 lbs. sold for an overall price of $84.21 with a sale at $88.25. Twenty-four heifers consigned by Harold and Garry Bell of RR 1, Wroxeter averaging 1189 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.08 with sales to $84.85. Thirteen heifers consigned by Maurice Hallahan of RR 1, Belgrave averaging 1007 lbs. sold for an overall price of $83.05. A heifer consigned by Doug Weber of Neustadt weighing 1140 lbs. sold for $84. Seven heifers consign­ ed by Glen Kerr of RR 3, Palmerston averaging 10841bs. sold for an overall price of $82.61 with a sale to $84. Ten heifers consigned by Peter Minkenberg of RR 1, Moorefield averaging 1091 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.42 with a sale to $83.75. Thirty-six heifers from Dan Pear- son Feedlot of Ethel averaging 1055 lbs. sold for an overall price of $82.55. Thirty-nine short-keep steers consigned by Ross Dietner of Ethel averaging 972 lbs. sold for an overall price of $89.30 with sales to $92. All classes of cows sold higher. Choice cows were $55 to $60 with sales to $63.25; good cows, $51 to $55; canners and cutters, $47 to $51. The only weights of pigs on offer - 50 to 60-lb. sold at $1.25 per lb. Mr. Datars, who was also a neighbour of Mr. Riddell and a friend, had complained recently about bouts of indigestion and despite Mr. Riddell’s urging to see a doctor, had insisted on Friday he was feeling well. He drove the minister to appointments in Lon­ don and then to a Liberal gathering at Geneva Park on Lake Couchich- ing near Orillia.
